Temporary Teacher Statement of Duties

Responsible To: Teacher-in-Charge, Head Teacher or Director, TAFE Services as
appropriate

1. Maintain and develop professional relevance and expertise in educational and technical
disciplines so that the teaching role is performed in an effective manner.

2. Maintain a proper standard of education including:


• effective student assessment and reporting practices;
• liaison with the community, Head Teachers, Educational Services Division and Institute
officers on matters relating to curriculum, methods, resources and student services.

3. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of curricula, teaching methods,


resources and student assessment procedures.

4. Perform all administrative duties associated with teaching.

5. Participate within the sections educational and support team to maintain staff relations
conducive to a productive work environment.

6. Liaise with other sections to provide effective educational services to students and the
community, and to contribute cooperatively in the development and implementation of
agreed quality improvement processes.

7. Advise and assist students to develop their educational programs and make them aware of the
facilities the campus provides.

8. Provide advice and assistance to employers and members of the community and make them
aware of what the North Coast Institute provides.

9. Comply with the requirements and regulations of appropriate legislation, including safety,
health, welfare, security and good housekeeping standards.

10. Implement and support continuous improvement practices to facilitate cultural change,
customer responsiveness and AQTF/ISO 9001:2000 certification.

11. Ensure the principles of equal opportunity in education and employment are applied to all
staff and students including the prevention of overt and covert discriminatory practices.
Selection Criteria

1. Qualifications: Recognised degree of at least 3 years duration with a major in English as


a second language qualification,
OR
Recognised degree of at least 3 years duration, PLUS A post graduate (AQF 8 or higher)
English as a second language qualification, including the equivalent of one year's full-
time study relevant to English Language teaching methodology.

2. Industry Experience: Minimum Two years (post degree) relevant and current
vocational/community experience, including at least 100 hours experience in designing
and delivering English as a second language programs to adults in the last three years

3. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE10 Training and Assessment Package).

4. High level written and oral communication skills in English.

5. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining professional currency.

6. Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment.

7. Proven ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of educational, industrial or


community environments.

8. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service.

9. Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team environment.

10. Proven strengths in problem solving and change management.

11. Demonstrated organisational skills applicable to an educational setting

12. Commitment and capacity to implement Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Ethical
