KHWOPA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

UNIT TEST - 2068

LEVEL:- B. E. in Civil Engineering F. M.:- 25
TIME:- 01:00 hrs. SIXTH SEMESTER [III/II] P. M.:- 10
SUBJECT:- Transportation Engineering
Attempt All Questions.

1. Define highway alignment. Explain the factors controlling highway alignment. [1.5+3.5]

2. Define extra widening and its cause of providing. Write the mathematical expression for the total
extra widening. [1+2+2]

3. The centre line of a double lane road has an elevation of 310.00m as recorded form longitudinal
profile. The camber is 3.0% and the lane width is 3.5m. Find the elevation of the road at the edges
of the pavement and center of lane if
i) Straight line camber is provided
ii) Parabolic camber is provided [7]

4. The design speed of highway is 80kmph. There is a horizontal curve of radius 200m on a certain
locality. Calculate the superevleation needed to maintain this speed. If the maximum superelevation
of 0.07 is not to be exceeded, calculate the maximum allowable speed on this curve as it is not
possible to increase the radius. Safe limit of transverse coefficient of friction is 0.15. [8]
