2. represents and exponential function through its: (a) table of values, (b) graph,
and (c) equation; (M11GM-Ie-f-2)

4. determines the intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes of an exponential function;
(M11GM-Ie-f-4)
II. Objectives:
The learner are expected to:
a. Solves exponential equation and inequalities
b. represents and exponential function through its: (a) table of values, (b) graph,
and (c) equation;
c. finds the domain and range of exponential function;
d. determines the intercepts, zeroes, and asymptotes of an exponential function;
III. Key Concept
Definition: An exponential function with base b if a function of the form ( ) or
where base (b) is greater than zero but not equal to 1(b>0, b≠1).
The definitions of exponential equations, inequalities, and functions are shown below.

One – to – one Property of Exponential Functions
If 𝑥 ≠ 𝑥 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑏 𝑥1 ≠ 𝑏 𝑥2 . Conversely, if 𝑥 𝑥 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑏 𝑥1 𝑏 𝑥2

( )
Example 1: Solve the equation

For equation that begin 2x + 6 = 2 Equate the exponent

with terms on both sides 2x = -6 + 2
of the equal sign that
have the same base, 2x = -4 Divide both side by 2
equate the exponent, then
x = -2
solve for x.

Property of Exponential Inequalities

 If b >1, then the exponential function 𝑦 𝑏 𝑥 is increasing for all x. This
means that 𝑏 𝑥 𝑏 𝑦 if and only if 𝑥 𝑦
 If 𝑏 , then the exponential function 𝑦 𝑏 𝑥 is decreasing for all x.
This means that 𝑏 𝑥 𝑏 𝑦 if and only if 𝑥 𝑦

Example 2: Solve the inequality

Solution: Both bases 9 and 3 can be written using 3 as the base. Note that 9 is
equivalent to .

( )

Equate the exponent since the base

are the same.
x 2x – 4

Since the base , then the inequality is equivalent

4 2x – x The direction of the inequality is

4 x retained

The solution set to the inequality is { | }
