EDG And Its $1.

5B Esports City

It’s no news that China has been pulling its weight in the Esports scene. Whether

hosting events or the diverse organizations representing the region, China has taken

the spotlight in front of the international community. The parent company of Chinese

esports organization Edward Gaming (EDG), SuperGen Group, announced that its

“Shanghai International Culture and Creative Esports Center” started construction in

Shanghai’s Minhang District. In simple terms, China is aiming to take the lead as the

World’s Esports capital.

What will this “Esports city” have?

According to Minhang district officials, the center will not only hold a 6000-seater

esports venue but will also give Esports enthusiasts their own private haven. The facility

will have Esports-themed five-star hotels, work offices, a breakdancing facility, an indoor

skydiving venue, and a museum devoted to gaming. It is clear that this center won't only

host esports tournaments, but it plans to become an exclusive place for Esports

enthusiasts and organizations from around the world.

What does this mean for Esports and Chinese Organizations?

The news about the 1.5 Billion Dollars Esports center has made a huge impact in the

Esports world community. The reason why it made an impact throughout the community

isn’t because of the amount of investment but the message China is sending to the rest

of the world. Esports is here to stay and is no longer about the sport but it’s about the
players. The idea of having such a facility is not for tourism or weekend tournaments,

the aim for a three-year project is beyond that. Initially, it is to expose China as the

Esports capital, but it’s also an invitation for investors to take interest in Chinese

organizations since as of 2023 will be on top after not only offering an arena for the

region but will also host offices for organizations to work and train in. In this new light,

Esports is now more needed than before. After the pandemic, video games have proved

their survival in an era full of lockdowns and safety precautions. Today, China is taking

the lead in offering all Chinese organizations a steppingstone ahead of other prominent

regions.
