Project Name: Gulayan sa Barangay

Gulayan sa Barangay is a collaborative effort of the community to promote tree planting and
gardening within the compounds of a small space.

This aims to make community participants to be concious of their surroundings. People do not
need big spaces just to be able to plant. That they can have their own gardens even at the
confines of their own homes or small backyard.

Rationale:

Poverty is one of the main reasons why families suffer hunger and malnutrition especially among the
Filipino children. Having sustainable resources of healthy food can make a difference in food
consumption, health and nutrition in every household, especially in the community.

What can gardening do to help with the coronavirus pandemic? Gardening has always been touted as a
relaxing recreational activity that can provide great personal rewards. During this time, when many
people are working at home and students are learning at home, gardening can be a positive family-
inclusive activity to adopt. As Dar stated “With this pandemic, there is tightening of global food supply
and we know that when there is not enough food, disorder is probable. While improving our food
adequacy level, we should aim for food security. If no action is done, the threat of hunger is as real as
the threat of the virus,”

Objectives:

1. To promote food security through self- production activities

2. To support the Lau da To Si of Pope Francis
3. Alleviate

Methodology

To organize the project the community joined together to make the activity possible.
Implementors of the project focus more in the importance of having your own garden. The
benefits that you get from home grown vegetables and the money that they can save if they have
it.

Barangay assigned Purok leader to bring their own materials like empty cans, empty water
containers and any materials where in they can put soil and plant in it. The barangay will create
monitoring team to check the progress or development of the gulayan.

Vegetable seedlings will seek help in City Office for Natural Resources.

During the course of the project, the community keep track of the development of Gulayan sa
Paaralan and the development of the gardens within the community. Every community member
share their time and energy to keep the garden clean and helped in planting the vegetables in the
garden.
