1. Case Summary
Peter, Sandy, and Josh were the key of the business rejuvenation of Vigor Skin Care
business. Their passion and scramble did succeed to make Vigor Skin Care business jumping.
Starting from a broke team then transformed to the team who will receive highest awards of
performance. This case is figure out the Tuckman’s Five-Stage Theory of Group Development, in
which explaining about the group forming until adjourning stage. The summit of this group
development stages is when they succeed to have a new idea and implement that idea and brings
Vigor Skin Care performance better (performance development stage). Then afterwards, each
group members become busy in their each business then the consolidation group interest
occasionally become the second or third priority. At this stage, adjourning group development
process has occurred. The next importance decision is that to reforming the group using existing
(old) members or using all new members.

This case is highly correlated with Tuckman’s Five-Stage Theory of Group
Development. First of all, in the stage of declining business where Vigor Skin Care needs
to be rejuvenated, Peter Markles try to develop a team as the driver of many strategic that
would implemented in Vigor Skin Care. By really understand the objective of the
organization, thus each member of organization can all out in the organization. Forming a
team, is the first stage that have to be built, furthermore Peter, Sandy, and Josh really
understand of the aim of this organization and also their each own job in the organization.
The second stage of team development theory is that Storming, where those 3 persons
are really know that they have their own contribution for the Vigor Skin Care
development program. Norming is further stages, in which in this position each person
conveys any idea in terms of roles and expectation for each other members have to do in
group. The top of Tuckman’s five stage theory is performing, and in this stages each
members is demanded to give their own best performance for group. In this case, this was
happen when each member is full of enthusiasm and new idea for develop Vigor Skin
Care and impacted to their product would become a rising star and sold in huge number.
The last phase of group development related to Tuckmans’ theory is adjourning stage. In
Vigor Skin Care case, this stage is occurred when they already satisfy with any good
result of their hard work before. Product out of stock, higher cost of promotion, lower
sales, worse product quality control, and even more differences circumstance of
organization in which many members had lost their enthusiasm to sustain group goal and
vision. Those factors will lead to the Vigor Skin Care business shrinkage.

4. Problem Solving & Recommendation


In our opinion regarding this group, not only company or product that need rejuvenating but
also organization. In this case, keep the organization on the adjourning level will lead many
further problems for Vigor Skin Care business. Rejuvenating of organization is could be renew
the members or just reforming and re-norming organization by using existing group members.
Thus this organization is as if started from zero again.
On the other hand, Vigor Skin Care’s organization is very late in regenerate their members,
thus the case that been faced by Vigor Skin Care organization could be easily solved by
reviewing and firing members that does not give good contribution to organization or even only
give a few contribution. By doing so, it could push ahead all members to always enthusiastic and
all out to do the job with the objective is to aim organization vision.
