Grade Commentary
Merit There’s some good commentary in
this work (particularly for the
Alternative rock section) but it falls
short of the level of understanding
and depth of knowledge shown by
distinction level learners. The
section on Jazz is lighter and it may
be worth asking the learner to
tighten up the events/performance
section as they’ve tried to identify
that performance is vital to the
genre but it’s debatable whether
they’ve done what the AC is asking
for. Not unclassified for that without
amendments but possibly worth
revisiting at this stage to remove
any doubt.
Merit This is at the low merit/high pass
border. Certainly all the A.C. have
been met but there also appear to
be some gaps in the learner’s
understanding. There is some wheat
amongst the chaff in the section on
tonality and the lyrical content
section is of a good standard which
has lifted it above a pass. In any
case, the overall grade would be a
merit.
