“Internet Usage: Good or Bad?”

 Introduction

Nowadays, internet usage is quietly popular among teenagers. It could somehow affects a life of

an individual. Whenever, I use the internet there is one thing that comes in my mind, Is, internet

good or bad? Well, I try to think of the answer and I come up with the usage of the internet can

be either good or bad? Why? In some ways we could say that it help us in many ways. It help us

to communicate to our loved ones, play online games, find friends and especially doing our

projects and much more. But somehow user, use it badly. They use it to hack accounts and

passwords, watch pornography and even to destroy an individual personality and perspective.

Just what happen to a celebrity that got her destroy her life out when the private thing that she

does with her boyfriend got recorded and was uploaded in youtube.com. Somehow, it definitely

affects the career of that particular celebrity.

In the book, “Introduction to Computer, Lews Leon (2004) doubt that , Internet usage, one of

the most important thing that help us in communicating to our loved ones .There are reasons

why we use the internet. It is either for social networking, entertainment, watch movies or

download the latest song that rocks your world. The internet as a source of information gives

advantages and disadvantages to people. There are reasons why people use the internet and

seemingly there are good and bad effects of the internet in the way we socialize other people.

Using the net, could really affect an individual behavior and also make their social life easier

because it easier to connect with friends online with the power of yahoo messenger here comes

the chat feature of facebook that definitely really help people to communicate easier and faster.

What I am trying to say is that our world now is so different in the way it was before. Certain

things can be did in internet and there are still internet café that allow the user to access in

pornographic sites. There are still internet café that is near the school especially in our university

thus it is wrong because it was stated in the law that an internet café must be 5 km away from

the school. In our world right now we must learn how to minimize our usage of internet, we

must not abuse it and avoid using it in such away that are not meant to use. In our everyday life,

we must learn how to value things and thank the modern technology that brought us to a

modern era of finding friends and communicating our loved ones easier and faster with the

power of the Internet. Indeed, I probably believe that there are reasons why internet is created

thus we should always learned not to hack and scam and personal accounts that just not ours,

that is one of the most certain issues that comes in my mind whenever I think how bad the

internet could be if we use it in that way. We must first learn the fact that the internet is created

to make social networking easier and faster, communicate and connect with friends and not to

use badly.

Title: Internet Usage: Good or Bad?

Thesis Statement: Using the internet in our daily life can be either good or bad it depends on

how the user use it.

Statement of the Problem

1. What is internet usage?

2. What are the cause of internet usage

3. What are the effects of internet usage?

4. What are the advantages of internet usage?

5. What are the disadvantages of internet usage?

6. What are the school policies regarding the internet?

Objectives

-to understand how internet usage affects an individual between 15-21 years old both male and

female

-to know more about how internet usage affects the personality and perspective of an individual

Significance of Study

The significance of studying about the internet usage it will help the reader to understand how

internet usage affects an individual. It will also help them to discover more things about the

internet usage. It would also serve as a reference if ever they needed some information

regarding the internet.

Scope and Delimitation

The study does not cover certain issues about the internet like hacking and scamming of

personal accounts. Also, it does not discuss about the different internet connections used by the

people.

Reason Why I Choose this Topic

I choose this topic because I want to know how internet affects the user and I also choose this

topic because I am interested researching about the policies of the Internet and more of it.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

The Internet is a worldwide network of millions of computers that connects more than million

users all over the world. Most people are on the Net; that is they have an Internet account.

Internet offers a wide range of service such as getting the latest news and weather, electronic

shopping, email and much more. When a person goes online he/she interacts directly with the

computers in the information network to obtain desired services.

The Internet has many uses for the people. The spirit of sharing continues as overriding theme

over the Internet. Aspiring writers who have difficulty in publishing their writings can make it

available to thousands of readers in just a matter of minutes. Unknown musicians used the

Internet to gained recognition. Surfers on the net read story online, listen song, watch music

video and download it.

The spirit of sharing has prompted as well. This wonderful distribution and sharing is too good

for commercial enterprises. In this time, more and more business use to generate revenue.

In the book, “the Internet and webpage Fundamentals, Melany Bermudez states that, Services

and capabilities of the Internet and commercial services are growing daily. Like the Internet,

information services continue to provide increased services. The Internet and other information

services are important forces in shaping our information society.

Internet is a new medium in education requiring strategies and new learning is happening

increasingly using an interconnection of networks that links together, millions of computer

worldwide.

He also added that, the best opportunity for improving education since the printing press

started putting books in the hands of millions.

Practically speaking the internet is composed of people, hardware and software. It`s faster than

flying and done within the comfort of your room. The FNC defined Internet as “Internet refers to

the global information system that is logically linked together by a globally unique address based

on the Internet Protocol or its subsequent extension/follow-on; is able to support

communications using the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite or its

subsequent extension/ follow-on, and other IP compatible protocols and would provide, use or

make accessible, either publicity or privately high level services layered on the communications

and related infrastructure described herein”.

If the computers linked together in a serial fashion by a single wire and a bomb hits the wire

then many computers would have lost their ability to communicate with each other. The

inability would create a disastrous impact during the time of crisis wherein communications are

the utmost important.

In the book “Computer Literacy Program (January 2002), says that “These days, there`s a lot of

money tied up in the Internet that you`d think whoever owned it would be sitting back watching

the dollars pour in. But the fact was “no one owns the Internet. It is not owned by any single

company or government. It is, however increasingly because of commercial interest. It means

people are making money on the internet because they have a charge every time they access

on their website.

In the book, “Computer Literacy program, (2002), The only governing body on the Internet is the

Internet Society or ISOC. The ISOC was created for global cooperation and coordination for the

internet and its internetworking technologies and applications. But about the time you`ll run

info to them is if you`re interested in starting and maintaining a site.

In the Philippines, broadband internet is usually available to consumers through 2 methods:

cable and DSL. Cable Internet is offered through companies such as ZPDee Cable, Destiny Cable

and Parasat "Cable21", Caceres "C3", Skyline "Cheetah", USATV1, Viacomm, Aeronet, KwikNET

(Los Banos, Laguna) usually starting at 64 kbit/s. ComClark (Pampanga) usually starting at 384

kbit/s. PLDT, BayanTel, Globe and Eastern Telecom (ETPI) offer DSL starting at 128 kbit/s up to 5

Mbit/s. Broadband internet is also widely available at public internet cafes and offices, especially

in major cities. Wireless (WiFi) broadband internet is progressively being rolled out in coffee

shops, malls and major airports around the country.In 2005, Smart Communications launched

"Smart Wi-Fi", which, contrary to its name, does not make use of WiFi but wireless internet

connection via its cellular infrastructure. The service offers wireless fixed broadband through the

use of Motorola's Canopy equipment. The service was later rebranded as "Smart BRO" on April

The Internet World Stats website showed that as of March 2009, there are 20.6 million

Internet users in the Philippines with a penetration rate of 21.5 per cent of the population.

Roxas-Chua pointed out that majority of PC and web use is limited to major cities but

many rural areas in the Philippines have yet to benefit from these services. Moreover, he

said previous studies only measured PC and internet use in cyber cafes, which flourish in

many areas in the Philippines. The price of computers, availability of connectivity in

certain areas, and lack of local internet content that would spur usage are among the

issues that deny most people from acquiring computers,

A. Data Gathering

As a student of CvSU-CBE I used different methods in studying my topic. One of

the method I used is the researching process wherein I used books and internet

to gather and combine ideas. Another method I used is the interview wherein I

interviewed students of CvSU-CBE who are using the internet.

B. Data Analysis

Upon researching about my topic almost all of the persons though believe that

Internet can be either good or bad. In some ways, we all know that Internet

really makes our world so different and as technology emerges Internet takes

place.
