Discussion Topic: Look Up and Be
Grateful
I grew up in a middle-class family, where
making ends meet was a normal occurrence.
Because resources were just enough at times,
our lifestyle as a family was just plain and
simple. As a result, I couldn’t buy the things
that I wanted. In school, I felt very envious of
others. So when I am in school, seeing y well
off classmates with their beautiful new shoes
or bag, slowly made me jealous of them.

Grateful
This has been my favorite vice when I was
growing up. I always felt discontented or
resentful, longing for someone else’s
possession. It became a struggle for me
because I started growing the habit of
longing for things I don’t even need. It came
to a point that I forgot to be grateful for
what I have because I am too focused on
what I don’t have.

Grateful
Jesus always reminds us to be grateful and
generous in whatever we have. We are not
rich by what we possess but by what we can
do without. The miracle of the loaves and
fish – feeding the multitude – happened not
through the abundance but through the
willingness of somebody to be emptied for
the sake of others.

Imagine, offering the little that they

have so that others may be filled!

Let us remind each other to have that

direction – to look up and be grateful for
everything He has given us.
