Levels of Technology Integration:
X Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

X Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student driven.
Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Khan Academy provides supports for all students through languages options, self-paced work, setting goals,
and progress notifications. Clear audio and closed captions are available for tutorials, background knowledge
is utilized when progressing through lessons in order, and content is relevant to students age group. The
tutorials are engaging, as the narrator illustrates the lesson with colorful tools and comprehensible language.
Students are reminded of their goals and teachers are able to easily access and monitor student progress.

Instructional Software
The teacher will begin by passing out dry-erase boards and markers to the students and have the students sit
on carpet for whole-group time. The lesson will take around 30-40 minutes if we just focus on addition for
one day and will be introduced by watching the 4 short tutorial videos provided by Khan Academy for the
‘Add within 20’ part of the lesson. We will discuss what was understood in the videos and if anyone has any
questions about the material, and then we will watch them one more time if necessary. After we finish
watching the tutorials, we will move on to the practice exercises.
During the practice exercises, students will use their dry-erase boards to write down their answers, and the
teacher will record each of the students answers. Having the student’s answers recorded will help the teacher
modify instruction and differentiate learning. To extend student learning, the teacher will ask students to
write down the answers of 1 or 2 more challenging addition within 20 problems before ending the lesson. To
conclude, students will come up with their own addition within 20 problem on a piece of paper using an
array, drawing place value blocks, or ten frames. The teacher will view each student’s math problem and give
them feedback on it written on the paper and also verbally when handed back to the student.
Reflective Practice:
The tutorials are engaging for students as it includes clear narration and colorful illustrations. ELL’s will also be
given the opportunity to watch the video in Spanish so they will have a clear understanding of the tutorial
before moving on to the practice exercise. To extend the lesson, students will learn about subtraction within
20 using place value blocks, ten frames, number lines, and word problems. Students can also practice on Khan
Academy at home with their free account where the teacher will see their progress as well.
