4. Describe a childhood friend of yours

You should say:

Who she/ he is
When you met him/her
Where you met him/her
What you did with your friend
How you felt about the friend

(Introduction)

I have made many friends in my life and a few are very close friends. Here I would like to talk
about a friend with whom I met after 11 years losing contact.

(Who she/ he is)

Her name is Trang and she is about my age – 25 years old. She and I were class fellows since
primary school. Then her family immigrated to the Czech Republic. As we didn’t have Internet or
Social Media that time I totally lost contact with her.

(When/where you met him/her and What you did with your friend)

One year ago, when studying abroad in Holland, we suddenly found each other on Facebook. It
was a very pleasant surprise for me. I felt very happy to be in contact with an old friend from my
childhood again. We chatted for a long time and revived nostalgic memories of our school days. I
remember vividly, how she managed to be first in class every time. Back to that time, she was my
favorite math tutor. Every time I got in trouble solving a math problem, she was the one who
helped me out.

(How you felt about the friend)

She told me all about her life in Czech. How beautiful the weather was, how Vietnamese live there.
I was truly fascinated to hear all that from her.

5. Describe the person you would like to become in ten years

You should say:

What kind of person you want to become in terms of different categories.
And explain what you can do to achieve your goals in the future

Introduction
Well in 2031, I will be 30 years old by then. I would like to be financially stable, stay fit and
healthy.

What kind of person you want to become

Work/education wise, by that time, I'd like to be a polyglot, fluent in English, German, French,
Spanish and Japanese, to have travelled to 5 continents and be a respectable businessman by
helping others to achieve their goals. All of the three pillars of a men (wealth, health and mind),
wouldn't be a problem by then and all already fulfilled. In regards to living, I'll be moving for
sure. I don't really know where. I have some cities that are preferable, but nothing is set in stone.
Relationship wise, I'm going on a first date on Wednesday, and we'll see what happens. I doubt
it'll become a thing, but who knows.

What to do to achieve it/ How do you feel

Actually, that is just what I want to be in ten years. But life is unpredictable. There is a quote from
the movie FORREST GUMP said that “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what
you're gonna get.” Well in my opinion, it’s true, as many things go unplanned, and we can only
expect for the best, balance it with our efforts and actionable milestones, then we achieve our goals.

(What is it)

Well this might sound a little vague, because I do not have something material to cherish. I cherish
love above all. Not just any love, but unconditional love.

(Why you cherish it)

Love is very powerful and soothing that it can heal people of their corrupted thoughts and make
life for others more secure than an individual who receives no love. Love makes you feel like the
people who raise you care about you. Love and encouragement also help to build the base of our
self esteem.

(Who is it from)

Simply, I cherish my parents’ love even though they will one day ascend to heaven. But, because
of their love, I am secure and do not need to search for love within other people. And because of
that love, I am able to reach for the stars to my goals in life and pursue them.

(Explain why you cherish it)

For me, love is very important, it gives me the strength to move on in life with enthusiasm.

Well, I have an I-phone 11Pro Max, which has two cameras, along with a telephoto camera. I take
many photographs with it whenever I find anything worth capturing. However, I am not very fond
of taking selfies of myself alone.

When was it taken?

Here, I would like to talk about a group selfie, which I took with my relatives at a family reunion.

Where was it taken?

Last month, on the occasion of New Year’s holiday, all the members in our big family gathered
together in my parents’ house to have a meal. We were all dressed to our best and felt truly happy
to see each other after such a long time busy with our own work and studies.

Who took it? Or How you took it?

We were standing chatting loudly with laughter when my cousin suggested we should have a selfie
together and keep it as a memory of that day. He had a selfie stick which made our photos nicer.
There are ten of us in that pic. Including me. We all are smiling and looking very happy. This
photograph came out so nice that I have displayed it as my desktop background. Whenever I open
my laptop, the memories of that day come alive in my mind.

Explain how you felt about the photo.

I think it has rightly been said that a good photograph keeps a moment from running away.
This photograph brings a smile to my face every time I see it.

Two years ago, when my ex-boyfriend and I had just graduated and entered the labor market, we
luckily all got full-time employment. We each earned a modest amount, with him about a grade
higher than me.
(Who wanted to borrow it from you)

However, we had very different views on money. I'm frugal, he was somewhat frivolous at that
time. At the end of month, he often borrowed money from me and returned it as soon as payday
came around.
(explain why you refused him/her)

However, after a while, I moved out from my parents’ house and so I had to pay a lot of bills by
myself. I had savings, but these were strictly for a house deposit. I told him that moving out would
mean that I wouldn’t be able to lend him money any more, but he asked again. I refused, and this
escalated into an argument, with him accusing me of not helping when I could, and that doing this
out of principle had hurt him. We couldn't agree, and ended up breaking up and hating each other.

11. Describe a place that you don't like

You should say:

What place it is

When it is

Why it is noisy

And explain whether you think it will be quieter and why

(What place it is)

Today I’m going to describe a noisy place that annoys me. It is Tokyo- Japan's capital, which is
a dream destination for avid travelers. It is universally known that megacities like New York,
Beijing, and Tokyo are known for being exceptionally noisy and crowded, yet they still attract a
great number of tourists.

(When it is)

Last month, my family decided to choose Tokyo to visit as our holiday destination. Tokyo is
Japan's capital and the world's most populous metropolis. Today, Tokyo has become one of the
world’s most active major cities, home to cutting-edge technology, information, culture, and
fashion, as well as a high level of public safety.

(Why it is noisy)

The entire city is filled with loudspeakers, construction activities, commercial activities, and
factories. Therefore, it was too noisy sometimes for me, a person who prefers a sense of
tranquility. The most crowded place must be Shibuya crossing, the biggest and busiest crossing
in Tokyo, where sometimes 1000 or more people cross the intersection at once. My family also
experienced Tokyo’s crowded trains during rush hour once, and the commotion was so
bothersome.

(And explain whether you think it will be quieter and why)

Well, actually, Japan in my eyes is quite a peaceful country, so the chaos in Tokyo made me feel
totally overwhelmed. Given a chance, I would like to discover some quieter places in Tokyo to
truly unwind in one of the busiest places in the world. I’m sure there are a lot of spots like that
hidden in this modern, cosmopolitan megacity.

15. Describe an important place you like in your city.

You should say:
Where it is;
How often you go there;
What people do there;
And explain why you think it is important.

(What is this development)

I’m going to describe a recent development in my city, which is the establishment of the Vincom
center. Located in the city center, this giant 33-floor building is a complex of shopping mall, hotels
and offices. The project was initiated in September 2015 and is now reaching completion. For a
small province like my city, the advent of Vincom is undoubtedly a welcoming development.

(How could it help people)

As a shopping heaven and entertainment center, Vincom will cater to the spending and recreational
demand of local people. With a wider range of goods and services, overall consumer spending
will be strongly stimulated, which favors the provincial economy. The center will also allow
foreign visitors to purchase a greater diversity of goods, as compared to other supermarkets in the
past.

(What benefits it could bring)

Well, such a huge project brings with it innumerable benefits. Firstly, the construction and
operation of Vincom will offer numerous job opportunities for the locals. Secondly, the Vincom
center with its state-of-the-art offices will also provide a modern, convenient, and professional
working environment for employees. Most importantly, the success of Vincom will lay the very
foundation for other large-scale investments in my city.

(And explain whether it changes your life or not)

Apparently, the arrival of the Vincom center should exert a far-reaching and long-term influence
on the lives of local people in plenty of ways, such as the economy, tourism. As a part of the city,
I feel really excited about this progressive turn and I believe the center will enhance people’s
living standards as a whole.

17. Describe a time that you misunderstood someone

(When this happened)

There was one time when I was a child, I got a severe viral fever. My dad got me to doctor in my
hometown. It was a kind of clinic with one compounder and nurse. After he checked me, the
compounder prepared some medicine and explained the dosage to me.

(What you were doing)

In that prescription, one tablet which was a heavy dose needed to be taken once a day and he gave
me three tablets. So by misunderstanding the dosage, I took 3 tablets per day which was three
times more than the dosage I should have had.

More was yet to come, the effect of the drug overdose showed up the next day. When I got up
from bed, I felt a little pain in my neck. Then a few hours later, I noticed my head was moving to
left without my control. I tried to turn to keep it straight but failed. I asked my mother for her help
and she tried to keep my head straight but no use. She called my father who was at his office and
asked him to come home. At that time, along with my head, my mouth started to turn left.

So my dad and I immediately rushed to meet the doctor. The clinic had a lot of patients and I had
to sit there waiting for my turn. My father went inside to explain my situation. I got truly
embarrassed because everyone sitting around me looking at me wondering if I had a mental
disability or something. I didnt know whether to cry or laugh at that situation.

(And explain how you felt about it)

Finally the doctor checked my situation and gave me another medicine prescription. And thank
God, I was fully cured the next day. From that time, I have always benn careful with medicine.

18. Describe an important event that you celebrated

You should say:

- What it was

- When did it happen

- Do you prefer to celebrate it with a group of people

-And explain how you felt about it

(What is it)

Taking up scuba-diving was by far one of the most important events in my life. To be honest, I
had never been very keen on sports before, especially as far as water sports were concerned, but
once I tried scuba-diving, I completely changed my attitude towards adopting an active way of
life. I had not been familiar with the equipment that professional divers use either until one holiday
in Nha Trang, when my father came up with the idea of taking a course in scuba-diving.

(When did it happen)

It was last summer when my whole family celebrated my parents’ wedding anniversary in Nha
Trang. As the weather was unbearably hot, we wanted to travel to places with breathtaking
beaches, sunshine and delicious sea food. While we were walking alongside the beach, my father
suggested I experience scuba-diving, with the hope that I could be more physically and mentally
able to confront the university entrance examination.

(Do you prefer to celebrate it with a group of people)

Even though the feeling of immersing myself in the fresh water was self-gratifying, I also wanted
to share it with my family and my friends. Although the event is not an achievement or anything
like that, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and motivated me to overcome my inner fears.
Given the chance, I wish my close friends had been there that day to celebrate that with me.

(And explain how you felt about it)

I was a bit frightened at the beginning as I found out that such a person of weak physical strength
and stamina as me would have to put not only a tank on, but also a weight belt. But as it turned
out, it was not that intimidating at all, contrary to what I had previously thought. I found myself
in cool water, where I could breathe freely as well as move easily. The only thing I could tell
anyone who does not know whether to do something or not is: do not hesitate and try, because it
may become an important event in your life, just like it was in my case.
