Infusion Pump

An infusion pump is a medical

device that delivers fluids, such as
nutrients and medications, into a
patient’s body. In comparison to manual
administration of fluids, infusion pumps
provide the advantage of controlled
administration—the ability to deliver
fluids in small volumes or at precisely
programmed rates or intervals. This is
especially important in the treatment of
the smallest of patients in the NICU.

This electromechanical device

includes a pumping mechanism, user
interface, methodology for connecting
the machine with the tubing
administration set, and a control system
for performance, safety, and interface
functions.

Patients are also kept safer by

infusion pumps through minimizing the
risk of either under or over-infusing a
patient and they allow medical
practitioners to create a standard for
Cleaning and Disinfection

Step 1:

All electronic connections have to be

disconnected from the power grid before
cleaning or disinfection of the infusion pump

Step 2:

Clean / disinfect all sides of the Space Infusion

pump.
Start with the display and use ready-to-use wipes
or a moistened fleece cloth. Clean with a moist,
NOT a wet fleece cloth. Dispose cloth after usage
Step 3:

Make sure that no liquid is leaking into the

ventilation or connectors. Let the device dry for
at least 1 minute. After drying time, place the
cleaned and disinfected pump in a safe area
and protect the device form dirt until the next
usage

Guidelines in using Infusion Pump

1. Prepare fluid that will be administered to the patient and prime the IV tubing

2. Ensure that the machine is plugged correctly into suitable electrical socket

3. Open the channel door of the infusion pump and align the IV tubing to the
channel and close it

4. Set up the desired rate to be infused per hour and the total amount of volume to
be infused

5. Press start and always remember to open the roller clamp of the tubing
