The Role of Teacher in Guidance and Counseling

Educational guidance helps us to determine what a student is good and what type of education

will reveal his inborn capacities and help him to develop them. It is a process concerned with

bringing about a favorable setting for the individual’s education.

Teacher is intended to achieve the following purposes in educational guidance and counseling

 Assisting pupils to make proper beginning

The teacher helps and guide his pupils to make a good beginning in their

educational career .The possibilities that a good and complete education can open before

them should be explained so that they are motivated to stay.

 Assisting pupils to plan intelligently

The teacher is abled to make familiar their students with the different types of

courses and activities available. Teacher should give the basic information regarding

occupational divisions and occupational families, special skill they require, and the

relationship of school achievement to employment.

 Assisting pupils to get best out of their education

During the process of education, pupils experience many learning difficulties.

Handicaps have to be detected to ensure progress. Teacher should help his pupils

according to their abilities and interest.

 Assisting pupil select courses and activities

Teacher helps pupils in choosing courses and activities which are of interest and

value to them at the stage of development. They also need to be assisted to qualify for
advanced work in courses for admission to higher secondary school, colleges, vocational

institution, or for employment, and for future social and cultural development.

 Assisting pupils to make progress in education

Teacher assists pupils to make progress in education by removal of subject

difficulties and development of good study skills. Pupils may face difficulties in learning

some subjects. Teacher will be abled to help pupils in solving these difficulties through

guidance and counseling.

 Assisting pupils to make an appraisal

Teacher will be abled to assist pupils to make an appraisal of their abilities,

aptitude, skills, and interest and to relate them to the circular courses.

 Assisting pupils to build motivation

Motivation is the significant component in the process of learning. Each school

has to find its own ways of motivating children for better learning. Teacher should assist

pupils to build proper motivation for study.
