NEWS 1: NO HOMEWORK POLICY


 Briones earlier expressed support to the proposed no-homework policy from
kindergarten to high school, saying it would help students achieve a school-life
balance.

 DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said researches state younger


students should have lesser homework compared to older students and this will
be indicated in the guidelines the agency will soon release.

 “The existing policy is no homework on weekends. But we are also


encouraging our teachers to limit the homework during weekdays especially on
particular subjects. And we’re going to come out with additional guidelines,
namagiging more precise ‘yung guidelines, on whatever homework teachers
might impose during weekdays and on what subjects” DepedSecretary Leonor
Briones said during a press conference in Deped Headquarters Monday

 Several measures proposing a no-homework policy were filed at the House of


Representatives and the Senate.

 The flood affected 15 families and they were brought to the evacuation center.

 “The strand is drafting a homework policy for DepEd. We will capture what
the secretary has mentioned. The literature is saying that younger kids should
have less and the kids in the higher grades like senior high school may be given
more homework,” Diosdado San Antonio added.

 Chinese association likewise urged the Philippines to claim damages for losses related
to the sinking of Gem-Ver.
 The statement comes over two months since Philippine fishing boat Gem-Ver was
rammed, sunk, and abandoned by a Chinese trawler in Recto Bank in the West
Philippine Sea. Gem-Ver's 22 fishermen were left to the elements in the open sea for
hours and were later saved by a Vietnamese fishing vessel.
 The DFA said the letter was sent to and received by the Philippine Embassy in Beijing
on Monday, August 26.
 There were no fishes in the boat
 " We believe that although this accident was an unintentional mistake of the Chinese
fishermen, the Chinese fishing boat should however take the major responsibility in the
accident. I feel deep regret that this accident had to happen and I would like to express
my deep sympathy to the Filipino fishermen. The shipowner of the Chinese fishing boat
involved, through our Association, would like to express his sincere apology to the
Filipino fishermen," the letter stated.
 It also comes on the same day President Rodrigo Dutere is scheduled to leave for China
for an official visit. Duterte is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during the visit.
 According to the Philippine embassy in Beijing, the letter was from the Chinese Ministry
of Agriculture & Rural Affairs (MARA) and was signed by Chen Shiqin who is president
of the Guangdong Fishery Mutual Insurance Association. The MARA was the agency
tasked by the Chinese government to investigate the incident.
 The apology of the ship's owner was coursed through a certain "association" and relayed
to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). A portion of the letter was tweeted by the
DFA without context on Wednesday.
