Professional Practices
History
 Nestle is a Swiss multinational nutritional and health-related
consumer goods company headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland.
 It is the largest food company in the world with around 45o
factories in 86 countries, and employs around 328,000 people all
around the world.
 It was formed in 1905 by the merger of the Anglo Swiss Milk
Company, established in 1866 by brothers George Page and Charles
Page.
System and Organizational Structure
Nestle is a decentralized organization that permits its subordinate branches to
enjoy a proportionately high-level of independence. Although it still makes major
strategy decisions at the headquarter level, daily operations are left up to
subordinate branches to derive and perform.
The management of Nestle is also divided into 3 types - top-level management,
middle level management and low-level management .
Role of the 3 Levels of Management
• Top level management:
 Lays down the objectives.
 Issues necessary instructions for preparation of subdivision
procedures, schedules,budgets, etc.
 Prepares strategic policies & plans for the initiative.
 Coordinates & controls the activities of all the departments.
• Middle level management:
 Execute the plans of the organization in accordance with the
policies and directives of the top management.
 Understand and explain policies from top-level management to
lower level.
 Participate in training & employment of lower level management.

 Lower level management:


 Assign jobs and tasks to various workers.
1)Instruct and guide workers for day-to-day activities.
2)Responsible for the quality as well as quantity of production.
 Maintain good relation in the organization. Communicate
workers' problems and suggestions to the higher level and
higher-level goals and objectives to the workers.
