Earning the Bobcat Badge

The first rank that Cub Scouts earn is the Bobcat Badge. All new Cub Scouts in every grade earn these
with help from a parent or guardian (“Akela”). There are 8 steps in the Bobcat Trail. Each step should be
completed to the best of each boy’s ability. Do Your Best!

1. Learn the Scout Oath/Promise: “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my
country, to obey the Scout Law, to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake and morally straight.”

2. Learn the Scout Law: “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient,
cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”

3. Learn what “Webelos” means: It means “We’ll Be Loyal Scouts.”

4. Learn the Cub Scout sign: Hold your first two fingers up in a “V” with your right arm straight up.

5. Show the Cub Scout handshake: Use your right hand and put your first two fingers along the inside
of the other boy’s wrist.

6. Learn the Cub Scout motto: “Do Your Best.”

7. Learn the Cub Scout salute: Use your right hand. Hold your first two fingers in a “V,” bend your
elbow and touch your right eyebrow or the brim of your cap.

8. A parent or guardian should read and complete the booklet “How to Protect Your Children from Child
Abuse.” It can be found online at: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/46-014.pdf (If a parent or
guardian needs a printed copy, please let one of the leaders know.)

When all eight steps have been completed to the best of the Cub Scout’s ability, the parent or guardian
should complete the section below and return this sheet to one of the leaders.
