Topic: Coordination in a Supply Chain

Reason: Being part of a capitalist society, it can be hard for one to look beyond their own
advantage. However, modern day norms of supply chain management require capitalist firms
to focus on increasing the size of the overall pie, rather than that of their own slice. Thus, as
part of our course report, we will aim to explore the importance of interdependencies in
modern day supply chains and how they can assist firms in dealing with volatilities in the
external environment. Since, foundations of an effective supply chain management regime
are built on systems perspective, our research will focus on finding mechanisms that are
essential to developing collaboration amongst various supply chain actors. In addition to that,
we will also explore the obstacles to coordination and how they have an adverse impact on
the bottom-line of all parties involved. In doing so, our main focus will be on the bullwhip
effect and how firms can be deprived of flexibility in their operations. We will apply our
research to Pakistan’s business context and share real time examples to back our arguments
further.
