MODULE 1

1
LABORATORY DEVICES IN PHYSIOLOGY

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this module, you should be able to know the apparatuses and equipment used in the study of
Physiology and proper handling the laboratory apparatuses and equipment.

ENGAGE

Anatomist and Physiologist use a variety of apparatuses and equipment to explore structures and their functions.
Apparatuses and equipment are very important in the advancement of Anatomy and Physiology. The type of
apparatuses and equipment physiologists use depends on the purpose they serve. A physiologist may use
something as simple as a metric ruler to measure the length of a bone. At another time, the same physiologist may
use a microscope to view large tissues. In this activity, you will identify laboratory apparatuses and equipment
likely to be found in a physiology laboratory. You will also learn the function of each laboratory apparatuses and
equipment.

EXPLORE

What are the functions of some laboratory apparatuses and equipment found in a typical physiology
laboratory?

Look at the images of the laboratory equipment. Carefully note the different types of laboratory equipment then
using a reference write the function of each laboratory apparatus and equipment in Physiology using the space
provided.
