INSTRUCTIONS:
1. At the library or online, search and print (or photocopy) any journal article that uses quantitative
research.
2. Highlight all the terms that are related to Statistics/Data Managements such as no. of
samples, sampling technique, mode of data gathering, statistical treatment/testing, variables and
others.
3. On a separate paper, explain why the researchers used the mentioned statistical treatment/testing.
RESPONSE:
Compliance for Number 1 and 2 are attached following this page. Meanwhile, discussion for Number 3
will be further discussed in the succeeding paragraphs.
The study conducted by the researchers focuses on the interrelationship of the all present conditions
of the patients at the time the samples contracted COVID-19.
As indicated, the researches tried to limit the sample size into 2 sources of the positive cases from North
and South area of Jiangsu Province. Aside from that, the researchers also made sure that no physical
contact from the people in the Wuhan Market where the virus first was identified. Those factors helped
the researches to focus on small sample size and made reasonable conclusion after the study served its
purpose. This is also one way of limiting the sample size since the land area of China is too broad too
cover.
Once the gathering of data is done, the study aims to provide multi-conclusion which would help the
doctors and scientist in order to further their study in providing a vaccine. With that said main objective
of the researches would explain why the study requires the use of SPSS. The objective of the study
entails the researches to provide analysis of complex statistical data since this will cover different
characteristics of the virus and its behavior to different hosts.
A lot of independent variables were used in order to come up with such conclusion but the study was
able to provide helpful information which might help in documentation of the behavior of the virus. One
of the samples is that it is possible to have a negative result even if you are having symptoms and a
second or third set would result a positive result since the manifestation of the virus might be
aggressive for others but blooms late for others.
On the other hand, the study disclaims that if they were given enough time to observe the infected a
little longer, they might have provided a more specific results since they are able to conduct the study
on a limited time and also covered a little of the population of the area infected.

Clinical Infectious Diseases
MAJOR ARTICLE
Background. We aimed to report the clinical characteristics of imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in
Jiangsu Province.
Methods. We retrospectively investigated the clinical, imaging, and laboratory characteristics of confirmed cases of COVID-19
with World Health Organization interim guidance in 3 grade IIIA hospitals of Jiangsu from 22 January to 14 February 2020. Real-
time RT-PCR was used to detect the new coronavirus in respiratory samples. Characteristics of the sample size
Results. Of the 80 patients infected with COVID-19, 41 were female, with a median age of 46.1 years. Except for 3 severe pa-

tients, the rest of the 77 patients exhibited mild or moderate symptoms. Nine patients were unconfirmed until a third nucleic acid
test; 38 cases had a history of chronic diseases. The main clinical manifestations of the patients were fever and cough, which ac-
counted for 63 (78.75%) and 51 (63.75%) cases, respectively. Only 3 patients (3.75%) showed liver dysfunction. Imaging examination
showed that 55 patients (68.75%) showed abnormal density shadow and 25 cases (31.25%) had no abnormal density shadow in the
parenchyma of both lungs. Currently, 21 cases have been discharged from the hospital, and no patient died. The average length of
stay for discharged patients was 8 days.
Conclusions. Compared with the cases in Wuhan, the cases in Jiangsu exhibited mild or moderate symptoms and no obvious
gender susceptibility. The proportion of patients having liver dysfunction and abnormal CT imaging was relatively lower than that
in Wuhan. Notably, infected patients may be falsely excluded based on 2 consecutively negative respiratory pathogenic nucleic acid
test results. Description of the sample size

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been re- CoV) [5, 6]. Since December 2019, a large number of COVID-
cently identified to be caused by a type of B-coronavirus 19 patients have been reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province
[1]. The virus has enveloped virions that appear as round or [7–9]. Most of them work in or live around the local Huanan

mals, and its genome is more distant from severe acute within the early stage of this pneumonia, with exacerbating
respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS CoV) [3, 4] cases where patients developed acute respiratory distress syn-
and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS drome (ARDS), septic shock, metabolic acidosis, and coagula-
tion dysfunction, which are difficult to correct [10].
