a. Who is ‘sir’ being referred to? What help does the speaker seek for?
Ans- Sir is referred to as Sherlock Holmes. Mr. Holder has come to take help regarding the
loss of three diamonds from the crown of diamonds which was kept with him.

b. What is the ‘story’ being talked about?


Ans- The story refers to the loss of the diamonds from the crown of diamonds which was in
possession of Holder.

c. What was the immediate reaction of ‘sir’ and why do you think his reaction was such?
Ans- Holmes sat silent for two minutes after listening to this. Holmes was trying to analyse
the situation pondering over the details given by Holder.

d. ‘Sir’ was very observant when he reached Fairbank. What did he observe?
Ans- Holmes looked all around the house, through the gardens and the lane at the back. He
looked at the windows particularly the big hall window that overlooked the stable lane.
