General Academic Strand or GAS provides a number of opportunities for

students who are not yet sure what course to take in college. However, it is not short-lived in

the preparation of university students. Covering a number of subjects in the fields of social

sciences, humanities and sciences, this strand is an ideal avenue for students to discover their

passion and field of interest for their holistic developers. If you still have no idea what you

want to be when you grow up, experience different strands in the span of only two years, and

acquire different skills and discipline, it is advisable to take the General Academic Strand. The

options for the subjects are limitless and it’s up to the student to maximize the strand. This

strand is designed for students who would desire to engage in a more general areas of study as

compared to more specific fields of study. This strand offers an option for students to take

elective subjects from specialized subjects of any strands. Since GAS does not specialize in

any strand, you are free to choose any college degree program under the three other strands

(ABM) Accountancy, Business, and Management, (HUMSS) Humanities and Social Science,

(STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics based on the elective you will

choose. Moreover, a possible course to pursue from this strand is Education. We all know that

the general academic strand was for the students who still undecided for their courses, this strand

will help them in their college life. Students in grade 10 were start to choose their stand, some
students choose directly to the stand they want because they already know what they want in

collage.

Some students don’t like GAS Strand because it doesn’t focus in one

particular subject. That was the one disadvantage of Gas strand, but you will not understand it if

you don’t know the whole thing of it. That there are a lot of advantages of General Academic

Strand. And it’s perfect for those students that can’t verify their course yet. Why do we need to

know the Advantages and Disadvantages of (GAS) General academic Strand? It is difficult for us

to decide then ended up disappointed, because we didn’t think of it. But rather push ourselves

from what we want for a mean time. Knowing the Advantages and Disadvantages of (GAS)

General Academic Strand is letting ourselves to discover the main purpose and being aware that

indicates for not wasting our time in not deciding wisely. Advantages, first thing you get the

general or the basic part of the other academic strand that will make them minimally prepared to

enter higher education. Disadvantages, students who will take General Academic Strand will

have a bit problem catching up with the lessons because the other student who gets to pick the

specific track will get more information in the course that they will take in college. In my own

opinion it is better to take General Academic Strand if you’re really undecided to what course

you will take in college because it will be more difficult if you our still undecided in college and

just like a lot of college students today that shift to another course because they are still not sure.

Picking up a course in college is crucial so students should think a lot before picking because if

not it would be a big waste of time and money. General Academic Strand is really helpful for

students like us who our still undecided for our future. Advantages, (GAS) General Academic

Strand offers subject that can also take in another track. It is general studies if all track and you

can choose what you like in collage because its general preparation of all courses. The advantage
being a General Academic student is that you'll be able to know and explore new things like

what other tracks cannot. And from the word General it is pertaining to a group and when it is

applied in the education strands it means the fundamental part of any major strands. First thing,

we get the general or the basic part of the other strands that will make us minimally prepared to

enter higher education. Therefore, maybe there are a lot of disadvantages of gas strand but still it

is a very helpful Strand to identify your strength and weakness in able you to prepare yourself to

collage. Besides it’s fun to have a lot of options it could even choose to specialize once you’ve

got the hang of things. Remember that in decision making you should be smart, wise and

effective. General Academic Strand helps us to decide what to go to college and also it is a big

help to improve our speaking skills and communicating skills. Being a General Academic

student is fun and crazy, you'll be able to experience everything crazy about life and in school.

Since GAS is not focused on only one specific path, it provides you with a number of

opportunities after you graduate. Here are some of the courses you can take in college after GAS:

Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Applied

Economics, Environmental Management, and BSBA Operations Management. What you will

gain from the GAS Strand: Hone you creative writing skills. Learn about Organization

Management. Learn about Empowerment Technologies. Gain knowledge of Disaster Readiness

and Risk Reduction. Develop your communication skills. One of the Advantages of taking

(GAS) General Academic Strand is that you don’t have any regret on choosing this track because

it focusses on all courses and subject from other track (HUMSS) Humanities and Social Science,

(ABM) Accountancy, Business, and Management, and (STEM) Science, Technology,

Engineering and Mathematics. The Disadvantage of this scenario is that not all universities is

accepting students from (GAS) General Academic Strand who wants to be an Engineer,
Architect, and Doctor. They only accept students who’s from their aligned track. (GAS) General

Academic Track will made us realize and understand what our weaknesses and strength on the

course that we’re going to choose. It will develop our weaknesses into our motivation.
