FREE CONVERSATION EXAMINATION

This examination weighs 25%. Students are divided into a group of three, yet scoring is taken
based on individual performance. They will be involved in a quite lengthy conversation based
on the topic cards provided by the teacher. This exam will run in two meetings. Each group will
have aproximately 10-15 minutes. The topics are taken from the last four units. In order for
this exam to be successful, note the following:

1) At least one day before the exam, teacher groups the students and tells how this exam is
carried out. Simulation may be held when necessary (please provide your own materials as
needed).
2) Exam will be conducted through live and online video conference. Each student attends one
session only. Yet, it is worth two meetings. They should be informed about this.
3) The topic cards are not to be shared to the students before the exam.
4) Teacher should ensure that all students understand the rules.
5) Each group is being assessed through the agreed video conference platform. While teacher is
assessing a group, other groups on the D day wait for their turn by standing by online.

The procedure is as follows:

1) One group of students and the teacher are in a live video conference platform.
2) The teacher asks the group to choose a card. The teacher puts a number in each card before the
exam day.
3) The teacher reads out the card, checks students’ understanding on the question or instruction,
and gives the group 30 up to 60 seconds to brainstorm what they have in their mind regarding the
topic.
4) Each member in the group should take turn to be involved to talk, comment on, respond to, or
argue the topic being discussed.
5) The teacher stops the discussion when it reaches 15 minutes (maximum).
6) During the discussion, teacher may not interfere.
