THE MICROBIAL ECOLOGY OF A MEDITERRANEAN CHLORINATED DRINKING

WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS IN THE CITY OF VALENCIA (SPAIN)
ANALYSIS OF THE CHOSEN ARTICLE AND ITS IMPORTANCE FOR THE
SUBJECT

In a specific way depending on the scientific article and when analyzing the fluid components
there is a high degree of participation within a specific system, since by monitoring the response
to turbidity, it has been demonstrated how hydraulics influences material build-up behavior and
how mobilization (discoloration) impact can be controlled, network resistance increases,
assessed unknown maximum daily pipeline flows, prioritized site maintenance and the locations
and lengths of the highest risk sections identified.
A central microbial community was detected throughout the net with washing in different places
and with a magnification applied shear stress that produces dynamic community information.
Microorganisms such as Pseudomonas, Aspergillus or Alternaria increased during redness,
indicating a greater abundance in underlying and more consolidated layers. Bacterial and fungal
communities were found to be highly correlated. The results highlight that, as part of managing
water quality, especially when considering changing patterns of demand and climate change,
understanding community dynamics, including the fungal component, will be key to maintaining
a beneficial microbiome and ultimately safe.
According to the aforementioned, the application of this article in the development of the subject
is of high value, since not only the behavior of the fluid must be evaluated, but also its
physicochemical characteristics, and thus identifies bacteria or harmful agents that may occur in
the same.
Finally, it can be said that this type of external laboratory, that is, in the field, can be replicated at
the regional level with the support of the university and its specialized laboratories. This study
was a first step highlighting techniques and approaches that can inform the design of future
experiments focused on understanding highlighting the critical role of biofilms and factors such
as hydraulics and temperature.
