Topic C:
In one of the many books I have read, I once came upon the phrase "the most powerful weapon on earth is the
human soul on fire." Now, many years later, I have come to find that medicine is the passion that ignites my soul.
From a young age, I was submerged into the field of medicine while visiting my uncle, who practiced in rural
villages in Pakistan. Watching him deal with serious cases in the most inconvenient settings and circumstances, a
desire for knowledge took birth within me, and grew with me. When I was nine, my father underwent a six bypass
heart surgery, when I was fourteen my sister was born premature and diagnosed with Prader-Willi, I myself was
diagnosed with Polycistic Ovarion Syndrome, and after a few more years my father with diabetes. My family ended
up frequenting the hospital quite a bit, especially for my baby sister. I was fascinated with the incubators that
protected my two pound sibling, the doctors who took her life into their hands, gave it their all, and not only saved
her, but our family as well. It is extremely difficult to put into words the thoughts and emotions one experiences
seeing the children in the NICU, one moment the future was a vast unknown, something to think about during high
school, and then all of a sudden I knew what I wanted to do. I realized that no matter how much work it took, no
matter how difficult, no matter what the roadblocks, I wanted to be a doctor. From that moment up until now, I have
never wanted anything so badly, The drive I feel to submerge myself into the medical studies new and old is
unparalleled by any other want. I took precautionary measures to make sure I was completely certain, even going
so far as to joining Southeast Missouri University Medicine club and studying cadavers. After spending countless
hours researching, interrogating anyone I ran into whom was associated with any field in medicine, looking for
friends and family that had decided to pursue the same quest for scientific enlightenment, I found myself unable to
consider any other career. No matter the difficulty others spoke of, I had no doubt that pre medicine was the
course I wanted to take after graduating high school. At times it seems like fate, the way my personal beliefs, my
work ethic, and standards measure up with those required of medical students. My greatest strength is persistant
determination. I never give up on anything, and I never let anything end unless I've put in my all. I am never
satisfied with a haf effort and always keep working to ensure quality in my work, no matter how long it takes. This
is what medicine is all about. Where would the world be if doctors gave up? If doctors didn’t put in a complete
effort? Even my weaknesses will aid me in my pursuit of medicine.I take any and all work personally. I have never
been able to think of anything as just another assignment, I put my heart and soul into everything I do, and
although this has often ensured personal satisfaction, it has also provided opportunities for me to be hurt by
rejection. My persistence and determination ensure that I can make it through medical school. I know myself well
enough to say that since I want it, and since I've started I will never give up. Taking my work personally will ensure
that I will never lower my efforts or standards, and will work as hard as I can against any and all oppressing
factors, to make sure I get my work done, and even more importantly that I do it properl
