Dolis National High School: A Glimpse

Dolis National High School, formerly Laga-an National High School-Dolis

Extension, is a newly-established public national high school situated at Barangay Dolis,
Calatrava, Negros Occidental. It is approximately 14 kilometers westward, and is about
fifteen to twenty minutes away from the town proper. It hails leftward just along the
national highway going to Bacolod City, if one prefers to travel by the mountainside. The
one-hectare lot where the school is strategically positioned was donated in 2013 by a
solicitous native of the barangay, Mr. Armando Perares.

The global crisis brought about by COVID-19 in the closing school year of
2019-2020 has not, in any way, hindered the official separation of DNHS from Laga-an
National High School, its mother school for almost seven years since its establishment
on June 2013 as an extension school. It gained its autonomy on Nov. 19, 2019 by virtue
of GOVERNMENT RECOGNITION (RO VI) No. S-014, s.2019.

Even long before its separation from LNHS, Dolis Extension High School had
been actively participating in various inter-school competitions in the municipal,
division, and regional levels. It had also won several awards in Tour Guiding, Tourism
Quiz Bee, Nutrition Month Cooking Competitions, Spelling, Reading, and numerous
others.

Meanwhile as DEHS, the school had been spearheaded by dedicated

professionals who had served as teachers-in-charge over the years.

First in line was the now Principal-II of Harbort Elementary School in

Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava, Dr. Noly Benignos Boctolan, who was formally installed
as TIC on 2013. He had served for over four years before his official transfer to Pantao
Elementary School as Principal-I on March 201. He worked enthusiastically as TIC while
yet in DEHS; and in his efforts, was able to reach out for assistance to various
stakeholders in the establishment of new buildings and in the improvement of its
facilities, and the academe as a whole.

Next to be TIC was Mr. Gualberto Cañete Layague, Sr., also the former TIC of
Laga-an National High School. He was installed as TIC on May 2017. His undeniably
remarkable experience as school head in the past ten years had helped him make a
good difference in the whole institution of Dolis. He diligently worked hard in the
separation of Dolis Extension High School, and had actually made it happen just few
months after his official assignment as Principal-I to Andres Gumban National High
School in Toboso, Negros Occidental, on February 2020.

Immediately after the re-assignment of Mr. Layague to another station, Mrs.

Angeles Bahala-Sumalinog, who was then a Grade-8 adviser was appointed as new TIC
by virtue of her meritorious achievements and years in service. She was officially
installed on March 06, 2020. Almost simultaneous to her appointment was her
promotion as Teacher-III. For a short period of time, she had worked persistently as TIC,
until for some considerable reasons, submitted her formal resignation from her
designation.

The significant milestone of Mrs. Sumalinog’s voluntary resignation paved

entrance to another well-experienced Teacher-III of Laga-an National High School, Mr.
Rolencio Ybañez Mainit. His commendable achievements as teacher-adviser,
coordinator, trainer, etc. over the years, made him the most fit candidate for TIC. His
formal installation is dated December 11, 2020.

Currently, Mr. Mainit is working passionately on the improvement of DNHS.

With his love for service and generosity boosted by the noticeable harmony of his
subordinates, it would not be surprising for DNHS to achieve its highest vision in the
years to come.
