CALL TO WORSHIP Leader/People

This is the fullness of time, the midst of Christmas season.
This is the fullness of time, when we live in the promise of Christmas.
This is the fullness of time, the transition of a brand new year.
This is the fullness of time, when we live our new life in Christ.
This is the fullness of time, the gathering of God’s worshiping children.
This is the fullness of time. Let us worship with joyful praise.

A TIME TO PRAY

A PERIOD OF SILENT PRAYER

OPENING PRAYER Leader

Almighty God, You search our hearts and You see every part of us. All our desires are
known to You, and from you no secrets are hidden. By the inspiration of Your Holy
Spirit, cleanse our hearts so we may perfectly love You and glorify Your holy name. We
pray this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Leader: Now as God’s dearly loved children, let us pray together:
ALL: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for
thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen

A TIME TO HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

A TIME TO GIVE OF OURSELVES

INVITATION TO OFFERING Leader

Sisters and brothers, God’s ancient, steadfast love is not a love that simply waits for us
to stop wandering and return home. God’s love comes seeking us, and gives us the gift
of Jesus, so that we might have life abundant. Our giving this evening whether we have
been lost and wandering, or secure and safe, expresses our firm conviction that God is
with us, no matter what. Let us gather our gifts together and offer them to God in
gratitude, heartfelt commitment, and praise.

DOXOLOGY
PRAYER OF DEDICATION Pastor
Generous God, receive these gifts as offerings of our deepest selves. Transform them
into gifts for the world, even as you transform us into children of your Spirit. In Jesus’
name, we pray. Amen.

WESLEY’S COVENANT SERVICE

Pastor: Tonight, we meet, as the generations before us have met, to renew the
covenant that binds us to God. Let us make this covenant of God our own.

CONFESSION OF SIN Pastor/People

Let us humbly confess our sins to God.

O God, you have shown us the way of life through your Son, Jesus Christ. We confess
with shame our slowness to learn of him, our failure to follow him, and our reluctance to
bear the cross.

Have mercy on us Lord, and forgive us.

We confess the poverty of our worship, our neglect of fellowship and of the means of
grace, our hesitating witness for Christ, our evasion of responsibilities of our service, our
imperfect stewardship of your gifts.

Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us.

Let each of us in silence make confession to God.

SILENCE

Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love;
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.

Now the message that we have heard from God's Son and announce is this: God is
light, and there is no darkness at all in him. If we live in the light - just as he is in the light
- then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us
from every sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no
truth in us. But if we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is
right; he will forgive us all our wrongdoing.
Amen.
Thanks be to God.

COLLECT
Let us pray
Father, you have appointed our Lord Jesus Christ as mediator of a new
covenant; give us grace to draw near with fullness of faith and join
ourselves in a perpetual covenant with you, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

THE COVENANT
In the old covenant, God chose Israel to be a special people and to obey the law. Our
Lord Jesus Christ, by his death and resurrection, has made a new covenant with all who
trust in him. We stand within this covenant with all who trust in him. On the one side,
God promises in this covenant to give us new life in Christ.

On the other side, we are pledged to live not for ourselves but for God. Tonight,
therefore, we meet to renew the covenant which binds us to God.

Please stand.
Friends, let us claim the covenant God has made with his people, and accept the yoke
of
Christ. To accept the yoke of Christ means that we allow Christ to guide all that we do
and are, and that Christ himself is our reward. Christ has many services to be done;
some are easy, others are difficult; some make others applaud us, others bring only
reproach; some we desire to do because of our own interests, others seem unnatural.
Sometimes we please Christ and meet our own needs; at other times, we cannot please
Christ unless we deny ourselves. Yet Christ strengthens us and gives us the power to
do all these things. Therefore, let us make this covenant of God our own. Let us give
ourselves completely to God, trusting in his promises and relying on his grace.

I give myself completely to you, God.

Assign me to my place in your creation.
Let me suffer for you.
Give me the work you would have me to do.
Give me many tasks or have me step aside while you call others.
Put me forward or humble me.
Give me riches or let me live in poverty.
I freely give all that I am and all that I have to you.
And now, Holy God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours. So be it.
May this covenant made on earth continue for all eternity. Amen.
You may be seated.

HYMN: “O MASTER, LET ME WALK WITH THEE” UMH 430

A TIME TO RECEIVE GOD’S GRACE

THE LOVE FEAST Pastor/People

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Here before us, you will find some water and bread. It is important to know that this
feast is not a Eucharistic feast, but one of love and fellowship. Let us commemorate our
unity through Christ, and feast on the spirit of love who is Christ.

We have been asked to shelter in place to keep one another safe.

For us this is as act of communal grace.
The Lord has not left us, nor forsaken us.
In Divine Love we are held securely.
We are not alone.
We are still together united by our prayers and our witness of hope before the
world.
You are the one who has loved each of us from before the world began. Even now we
are all being held in the security of loving arms. You are attentive to our every prayer
and through these prayers you have knitted us together. You are aware of our needs
before they revealed at our horizon and have begun to act before we know to cry out.
Keep us attentive to the needs around us, so you might illuminate your gracious
presence through our acts of kindness. Amen.

TABLE BLESSING
Let us pray together:
Bless, O Lord, this food to the nourishment of our bodies,
And our bodies to your service,
And keep us ever mindful of the needs of others. Amen.
