In the universe, in addition to stars, planets and satellites, there


are other small bodies, which are called asteroids and comets.
Asteroids are pieces of rock. Large numbers of asteroids make
up what are known as asteroid belts which revolve around stars.
Their size varies from only a few metres to several kilometres.
The ones that collide with the Earth are called meteorites.
Comets are made up of rocks, ice and other substances. When
they pass close to the star they are revolving around, the ice
