1.0 PURPOSE
- The purpose of this method statement to define the procedure that shall be
adopted for the trial pit excavation to locate and expose Transco pipeline
- This procedure identifies the procedures, methods, etc. to ensure that the contract
specifications/requirements related to excavation and backfilling are complied with
in all respects.

2.0 SCOPE
- Identification of existing Transco Pipeline for the purpose of finalizing the location
of proposed new Chlorine monitoring chamber, proposed new containerized Hypo
chlorination plant

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Manager
- is the overall responsible for the project execution, quality and safety.
Construction Manager
- is responsible for the overall site operation and works. He shall ensure
that the appropriate procedure is followed by all the involved personnel

taking into consideration all relevant shop drawings, reference drawing,


and methodologies are correctly utilized. He shall ensure all necessary
equipment and manpower available on site. He shall review progress
and supply resources accordingly. Liaising with all necessary authorities
to obtain permits and NOC whenever required. Liaising with site team to
organize the sequence of work as per schedule.

HSE Officer
- Will monitor and implement all HSE related issues. He shall ensure
that all necessary requirements regarding health, safety and
environment concerns are met and adhered to. The HSE Officer shall
ensure that all permits and authorization are on hand prior to starting
any site operation.

QCE
- Shall ensure that the work is carried out ensuring that the requirement
for quality control is followed. He shall ensure that all ITP requirements
are met. The QA/QC Engineer shall ensure that all necessary requests
for inspection and testing are processed and put forward to the
Engineer for notification. He shall ensure also that site team including
supervisor, foreman and surveyor are having the updated approved
shop drawing.

SE
- Shall ensure that all works are executed as per Manufacturer’s
Instruction/recommendation.

7.0 SAFETY
7.1 Hydropower shall abide all means to National and International Labor Law and
Health regulations, Transco SSR, HSE Guidelines and Management Plan.
7.2 All persons involved in the scope of work shall be imparted Safety Induction on
the first day and tool box talk daily during the span of the works for the activities
concerned.

- All opened areas to be safeguarded to protect the workers such as


setting out warning sign and, barricades as necessary.
- All ladder, scaffoldings (if required) and temporary stair to be well
secured at top and bottom working near excavated areas.
- Worker will wear helmet, safety boots, safety gloves and protection
clothes.

8.0 PROCEDURE

- The location of trial pit shall be marked by the surveyor. The location
will be selected as per TRANSCO GIS drawing and as per the
topography drawing
- The area should be checked for any existing cables by the cable
detector before starting the excavation
- Manual Excavation using the pickaxe and hand shovel to be done.
- The trial excavation is to identify the exact location and the depth of the
existing TRANSCO Line
- Trial excavation shall be 1.5m x 1.5m and up to 3m deep or up to the
top of existing pipe
- If the depth of slit trench is more than 1.5 meters, the side shall be
sloped or stepped to prevent cave-ins or other hazardous conditions.
- Each slit trench should be barricaded to protect the general public and
vehicles.
- When excavation reaches the desired depth or reach the top of the
existing pipe, the Consultant will inspect and check the pit.
- Trial exactions will be repeated until locating the pipe.
- After inspection and checking, backfilling and reinstatement shall
comply to the satisfaction of TRANSCO/Parsons Engineer and
involved parties with the conditions of excavation permit.
- The Safety Document/ permits shall be received and cleared by the
competent person.
