for you.

The Sheffield Royce Institute is a~£34M project based in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Sheffield is part of the national Henry Royce
Institute (with the main Hub in Manchester) which aims to grow the UK world-leading research and innovation base in advanced materials science, fundamental to
all industrial sectors and the national economy. The Royce@Sheffield focuses on Advanced Materials Processing and will be delivered through two centres - the
Royce Discovery Centre (RDC) and the Royce Translational Centre (RTC). These state-of-the-art facilities will allow materials discovery, materials manufacturing
and prototype production and will act as an open access centre of excellence for the UK.

The Research Associate will be at the heart of new research facilities within the Royce Discovery Centre. The post holder will be responsible for establishing
technical operation and key research competencies in the area tribology and subsequent high spatial resolution surface examination, including electron
microscopy, atomic force microscopy and surface chemical characterisation techniques.

You will have a good honours degree (or equivalent experience) in an engineering or science subject and a PhD or be close to completion (or have equivalent
experience) in materials science, engineering or physical science or any other relevant discipline. The candidate will have substantive expertise in tribology and
subsequent high spatial resolution surface examination (using techniques such as atomic force microscopy and electron microscopy). For the operational
management of the facility, excellent project and people management skills are essential, preferably with experience in managing and delivering multiple research
and development projects for a range of stakeholders. You will be familiar with all relevant Health and Safety rules and regulations. Finally, the candidate will have
excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as experience of supervising and line managing staff.

Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional
development.
