These 14” and 20” Pacific M.O.V.’s are used in
hydrogen service operating at 900 o F (480 oC) and 400
psi (28 bar). These large valves have stroke lengths
approaching two feet. The previously used packing
material was a braided graphite containing 15% to 20%
PTFE as a binder. At elevated temperatures the packing
experienced a volume loss that contributed to premature
leakage and in some extreme cases, fire would occur as
a result.
The end user required a proven sealing system that
successfully seals from turnaround to turnaround.
