Flipgrid

Task Analysis: Opening a new account with Flipgrid.


1. Open web browser (I will be using Microsoft Edge)
2. Type URL into browser (www.flipgrid.com)
3. Click on Educator Signup
4. Click Sign up with Google or Click Sign up with Microsoft
5. Enter your password to login if you were not already logged in
6. Welcome screen will appear, click on Start my Grid
7. Let’s Make a Grid box, Name your Grid
8. Select a Grid Type
9. Create a Grid Code or accept default
10. Click Next
11. School Email, if Teacher and Students have different email domain, add them
here or you don’t have to add here
12. Click Next
13. Your Grid is Ready!
14. Click on Go to your Grid
15. Grid Details Screen
16. Click on Share, here is where you can share the grid again
17. Click Actions, here are options you can use (Edit Grid, Add CoPilots, Duplicate
Grid, Grid Notifications, Teams Integration, Export Data, Delete Grid)
18. Click on Pencil to edit your Grid
19. Click View beside Grid title, Grid will open to view Topic
20. Click the Green plus to open the Flipgrid camera to add response to Topic
21. Click Add New Topic to add a new topic on Grid
22. Add Title, Recording Time, Prompt, optional media sources to engage students
23. Click Create Topic, option to share on next box that opens up
24. Your Topic is ready!, Click All Set!

1 Title Screen with text Flipgrid is 100% free for all educators, learners
and families.

2 Video Introduction Hello, my name is Ms. Davis and I will be


sharing a tutorial on how to open a free account
with Flipgrid. This tutorial is going to show you
how to set up your first grid and how to add your
first topic inside Flipgrid. Let’s get started!

3 Fade out to desktop view. Flipgrid engages and empowers every voice in

need to open a browser and for this tutorial I am
using Microsoft Edge.

4 Click on the URL bar Next, click on the URL or address bar and type
in www.flipgrid.com

5 Click on Educator Signup Now I will show you how to set up a new
account. Click on Educator Signup in the top
right corner.

6 Sign up with Google or On this screen you will click sign up with Google
Sign up with Microsoft or sign up with Microsoft. Most school districts
use Google so I am going to click on sign up
with Google. If you are not logged in before
clicking this button you will be prompted to sign
into your Google account. After you click on the
sign up with Google button, the welcome box will
appear.

7 Welcome to Flipgrid!, Now your free account has been set up and you
Start my Grid can start to create grids. Your grid is your
classroom or community where you add
discussion topics. Videos for your topic can be
recorded and watched by teachers, students
and families. Click on the Start my Grid button
to create your first grid.

8 Let’s Make a Grid In this box you will name your grid, select your
Name your Grid, Select a grid type and create a flip code. First you will
Grid Type, and Create a name your grid. Next you will select the type of
Grid Code grid from school email, student id, or educator
learning community. Most educators choose the
school email grid type because students use
their school gmail accounts for Google
Classroom so I will select that type of grid.
Finally you will create a flip code or select the
default code that is already entered. The code
could be anything from your name to a
combination of name and room number. If you
do not select the default, whatever you enter will
show available or not available as you type.
Once you have completed these options you will
click on the next button.

9 School Email In this School Email box you will add your email
and/or the email domain of your students if their
domain is different from your email domain. All
email domains added here will be able to see
this grid. If you choose not to enter any other
email domains here other than your email
domain there will be other places to share the
grid created with your students. After entering
your email, click on next.

10 Your Grid is Ready! The grid where you and your students can start
recording videos, watching and responding to
videos has been created. An introduction topic
is created in the grid for a sort of ice breaker to
begin using Flipgrid. From here you can also
copy and share your flipgrid code with your
students. Click on Go to your Grid.

11 Grid Details This screen is where you can access all the
details of your grid. You will see the Say Hello
on Flipgrid topic that is automatically created for
an icebreaker to introduce Flipgrid. You will see
the name of your grid at the top along with the
date, flip code and add a copilot. You can click
on copilot to add a co-teacher.

12 Grid Details, Share button Out to the right is the share button. Click on the
button to share your grid.

13 Grid Details, Action Next to the share button is the action button.
Button When you click the action button you have the
options of Edit Grid, Add CoPilots, Duplicate
Grid, Grid Notifications, Teams Integration,
Export Data, and Delete Grid.

14 Grid Details, Pencil Next to the action button is the pencil button.
Button Click on the pencil button and you will be able to
make any changes to your grid that you want or
need to.

15 Grid Details, View Button There are a few buttons out beside the generic
topic that was created. Here we can view the
topic. Click on view. This will open the Topic
Details screen.
16 Topic Details Within this topic details screen there are the
instructions of the topic, the date, flipcode and
option to add topic quests. Out to the right you
have the same buttons here that are available
on the grid details screen. Those option buttons
are share, actions and the pencil to edit. Scroll
down and you will see the green plus sign to
record your response to the topic and also the
share topic button. Just click on the plus sign to
open the flipgrid camera to record your response
to the topic. At the top left corner click on the
topic name to return to the grid details screen.

17 Grid Details, Add New About the middle of the screen is the Add New
Topic Button Topic button. Click the button and now you will
see the Create a New Topic screen.

18 Create a New Topic On this screen you will add a title, recording time
Screen and a prompt. The default recording time is 1
min. 30 secs but can be changed. You have the
option here to add a media resource to engage
your students. At the bottom right of this screen
click on the Create Topic button to create your
new topic.

19 Your Topic is ready! You have created a new topic. Here you have
the option to share your topic. Click on All Set!

20 Topic Details You can now see the topic details screen where
you can share here if you want to or make any
edits that you might need to make. You and
your students are now ready to engage with
Flipgrid!
