to the compactness of our engines, they had lesser range which needed a compact engine.
Although Stage 5 kept us busy, we have been
able to develop new products with great customer
benefits in parallel to Stage 5 which we will exhibit
at Bauma 2019 for the first time – the E1 engine
range.
We are expecting a record year in 2019. Thanks
to our well established and new products, we are able
to grow significantly in 2019 although the Stage 5
pre-buy volume is missing in this fiscal year. We do
not expect any impact from the transition period for
the years 2020/2021.

ALAN TOLLEY,
Group Director of Engines, JCB
Stage 5 covers a wide power and application range
and hence affects many machine models. This
has been managed by careful scheduling of the
development and launch activities of each model,
including the provision of any transition engines that
may be required.
New customers have been gained. The
emission changes provide opportunities for both
machine and engine sales as customers look for
suitable solutions. JCB has always maximised this
opportunity and is well placed to provide customer-
focused solutions.
Stage 5 development and release has enabled
additional features for both engines and machine to
advance and brought to market.
2018 was a strong year for the world construction
equipment market. We expect this strength to
continue in 2019.
