Essay 1: Additional Information p.1
I have long been interested in the business profession, so that I decide to devote
myself in this field. I recognize this field as a “splendid life” which vitally involves a
lot of interactions with people, keeping oneself in pace with the ever-changing world,
having high level of language proficiency and owning broad perspective of the world.
I am eager to learn all the above talents in order to have such an exciting, hard-
working and challenging life. The career development is also in the line with the
social needs and therefore, I think my efforts can contribute to the territory. My
interest in this field has been strengthened by having the part-time experience as a
clerk in the summer vacations. I am aware of the qualifications and requirements of
becoming a professional.
Apart from academic studying, I have also participated in other activities such as
windsurfing and rowing. I have got the basic certificate of windsurfing and the bronze
award of The Hong Kong Award For Young People. I also like reading, listening to
music and playing piano. I like to adapt myself to the experience that I have never
had before and studying at the tertiary education would be one of my crucial steps to
fulfill this ambition.
In my secondary school life, I have involved in many activities. When I was in Form
Six, I was the Academic Secretary of the Student Union. By organizing extra-
curricular activities, I have acquired the invaluable skills of communicating and
cooperating with others .I have also had a substantial training on leadership which
boosts my confidence and power of analysis. Besides, I have also taken part in the
Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival and Music Festival through which broaden my
horizons. Together they form a great asset to help shape my personality and character.
I am eager to serve the community too. In my spare time, I take the initiative to
participate in different voluntary work as it can help the people in need and also widen
the broadness of my vision. I have participated in the flag-selling day for the
Association of Baptist for World Evangelism and have visited the home for mental
retarded. The event has enhanced my ability to face and serve people who were of
different sectors in society. I have also been trained to deal with problems
independently and objectively.
I very much hope to pursue my studies in a tertiary institute as I strongly believe that
tertiary education will not only benefit me academically, but also improve my
competence and character. And I strongly believe that I can really make use of the
knowledge which I will learn from university in my future career.
With the spectacular pace of technological development one must keep abreast of the
latest knowledge and be responsive to the ever-changing needs of society. I am
convinced that the challenging BBA course can help me to achieve this goal.
In my secondary school life, I have involved in many activities. When I was in Form
Five, I was the Academic Secretary of the Student Union. By organizing extra-

cooperating with others .I have also had a substantial training on leadership which
boosts my confidence and power of analysis. Besides, I have also taken part in the

knowledge which I will learn from university in my future career.
It is my firm belief that life is invaluable and man must live in the air of helping others.
When this notion has been integrated with my intrinsic love of learning and interest in
medical science, I decide to choose the course so that I will be able to save life and alleviate
the pain and suffering in our society.
Through education at the tertiary level, I can be well equipped with the knowledge and
skills required in the medical science profession, which I intend to pursue as my future career.
Hong Kong has been experiencing the outbreak of Sars. The scarifications of
professional medical staff has made me feel proud of being a Hong Kong citizen while many
people in other countries like Taiwan are shunning their duties. In conjunction with the
enhancement and development of medical science technology, Hong Kong has been
recognized as a key center for scientific and medical technology for many years, thus, I would
like to be one of the people who contribute their effort to make Hong Kong keep on doing her
good job.
I am quite an active, inquisitive and self-motivated student. I feel confident that I would
be able to get the most out of whatever course I am admitted to. At the same time, I look
forward to playing a full and lively part in college life.
I would like to apply for the Business field. Business is an important section in
Hong Kong which is one of the busiest business centers in the world. With the
commercial activities going on, the demand for employees of this sector is large, so
that I would like to be a part of this sector. I would like to contribute to society. The
main reason why I choose business field as my tertiary education is that I am really
interested in business. I have found that doing business is really fascinating, which
makes me want to know more about it.
Being a helpful and active student, I took part in the Hong Kong Population
Census in 2011 when I was Secondary Five I was a student helper who helped the
lower Form schoolmates to solve their problems in doing homework in (year).
Through being a student helper, I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and
better interpersonal skills.
I sincerely hope that I will be able to further my studies in the business field and I
am prepared to word extremely hard to attain my goal.
Having firm foundation knowledge of biology enables me to know more about the
earth I am living in. I am saddened to learn that the earth has been severely damaged
by human activities, to such an extent that the environment is harmful for human. I
decide to choose the relevant curriculum so that I will be able to save the earth and
our environment.
For my area of strength, I am a good leader with a sense of responsibility and have a
critical thinking ability. In the Inter-school Debating Contest I took part in S6, it has
fostered my independent analytical power along with a critical thinking ability.
What’s more, I was the chairperson of the Chess Club, I have become more
responsible and independent.
In addition, my teachers and classmates always think that I am quite active and self-
motivated. The sport activities can give me a healthy body to face new challenges.
Exploring the Internet can help me to get information on web sites, and enrich my
outlook on life.
To start a wonderful journey of university, my first step is to opt for the Bachelor of
Social Science, not only because I firmly eager for the category of education, but also
because I possess some specific aptitude and personalities.
I am an active, talkative and outgoing person. As I believe that adequate exercises and
comprehensive development of personal skills are keys to unlocking the door of
success, I expose myself to a variety of learning sources. Thus I took part in the Inter-
school Debate Competition, fostering my independent analytical power and critical
thinking ability. Also, I was honored to be the master of ceremony of the Pok Oi
Hospital Joint School Graduation Ceremony and the intra-school Orientation Day,
which helped me to build up unbeatable confidence and unbreakable courage. I also
participated in the Speech Festival in Form 4 and Form 5 in order to enrich my
communication skills. Besides, I was the member of the school cross-country team
from Form 1 to Form 5, during the years, I learnt a lot about teamwork. And I
engaged in both intra- and inter-school sport days every year, the medals which I won
in the sports day together with the merit points given as a reward for being a member
of the school Marching Band/ Choir (Form.3 to 5) are the solid evidence that I do put
my heart and effort to establish my talents in each and every area.
All in all, tertiary education provides me the way of promising future. Should I gain
the admission, I would spend all my effort to prove my potential and contribute
positively to the society by applying the techniques and knowledge that I am going to
learn at university.
I am a responsible and patient person; moreover, being the Secretary of The Student
Union in Form 6, I learned to be persevering, caring and co-operative. I have been the
Chairman of the Music Club, the team leader of the School Prefect and the class
monitress. I do have self-confident that I could be a good leader with a sense of
responsibility and critical thinking ability. In addition, I am both sociable and self-
discipline. I am ready to embrace these abilities and turn them to their advantages in
my future career.
Outside the classroom, I am engaged in voluntary work in both Hong Kong and the
Mainland China. I went to visit the children in Qingyuan during the summer holiday
in 2010 in order to take a close look to the reality and witness the hardship of the
disadvantaged. In Form 6, I took part in Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and Hong
Kong Schools Speech Festival (Chinese); I got merits in both competitions.
In my spare time, I like surfing on the Internet, listening to music and playing the
piano. I have passed the piano (Grade 6) and theory (Grade 5) exams of the
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I like traveling too; I went to UK
and stayed with a local family during the summer holiday in 2010. It gave me a
chance to recognize the cultural background at different time and different people, at
the same time, widening my horizons.
Given the chance for entering the university, I can exploit my advantaged aptitude. I
can’t do everything, but I can do soothing. Should I gain the admission, I would do
everything to prove my potential and ability, and be able to make my utmost
contribution to society.
Apart from management, I also have a keen interest in Chinese medicine. Studying
Chinese medicine has long been my hope as relieving the pain of patients and helping
them to recover can bring the greatest sense of achievement. Moreover, Chinese
medicine has a long history and width range of knowledge. All of above, I choose
Chinese medicine.
I have a wide range of interests. I like reading books and newspapers and exploring on
the internet to broaden my scope of knowledge.
I know that management and Chinese medicine are demanding courses full of
challenges. But I believe that challenges can make me learn a lot. I sincerely hope that
I will be able to face these challenges in your faculty and I am prepared to work
extremely hard to attain the goal.
The entry of China into the World Trade Organization since 2001, a tremendous
prospect for Asian businesses has been growing. The economic scenario for Hong
Kong in the recent years certainly looks great and the demand for professional
executives will increase. Therefore, I have decided to devote myself to the business
profession. I would like to be one of the people who contribute their effort to make
Hong Kong keep on doing her good job.
Moreover, I enjoy traveling, experiencing different cultures and meeting new people,
and I have traveled widely in East Asia-to Japan, Korea, Thailand and China. These
traveling experiences have broadened my horizons.
I want to work with medical related work, so I can make a significant contribution
to our society. I strong believe that life is invaluable and man must live in the air of
helping others. When this notion have been integrated with my intrinsic love of
learning and interest in medical science, I decide to choose the curriculum so that I
will be able to save life and alleviate the pain and suffering in our society.
Being a diligent student, no doubt that studying put invisible stress on me. I can
release pressure though reading. My weakness is becoming nervous easily. It may be
due to the fact that I handle all my work with meticulous care. In addition, I am too
absent-minded and not talented enough. It can improve by practicing brain memory. I
like reading magazines such as Neutron that contains a lot of scientist information. It
can broaden my scientific horizons. Moreover, I like watching television too, for
instance, the Human Body and ER. I am a circumspect and friendly student with a
quiet and kind disposition. Being considerate and helpful, I mix well with others. I am
also a most responsible person.
I joined Yuen Long Town Hall voluntary work serving different kind of people and
organizing varied activities in (year) .I also got the Silver Award of Voluntary Work.
The occasion has promoted my ability to face and serve people who were of different
sectors in society. It has boosted my communication skills and confidence. I was also
trained to deal with problems independently and objectively.
I will try best to do well in the course. I am admitted to at university provided that I
am granted a chance.
In long term, having good communication skills is an advantage of meeting the social
demand. Therefore I put Language Studies with Business at Polytechic University and
Contemporary English Studies at Lingnan University as my second and third choices.
To achieve all-round development, I have actively joined two different study tours.
During the New Zealand Study Tour, I discipline myself well and performed my
talents to be a responsible leader. The teachers and students in NZ appreciate me
much. I am still working hard on language and I would like to contribute my talent.
In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, experiencing different cultures and meeting new
people. Moreover, I am keen on swimming and designing websites. These joyful
experiences have widen my horizon.
During my childhood years I was often criticized for being too much of an optimist.
My family and friends would have whole conservations about my goals and ideas.
They would say that I was too naïve or too immature to operate in this world.
However I did not see them as my limitations or weaknesses but as my gifts, my
specialties. For I believe, with an open, optimistic mind, one can change the world to
be a better place to live in. That is why I wish to pursue a career in sociology. I want
to learn of the mechanisms of society so that I may effectively and efficiently better
our world while at the same time operating in it.
Other than having an open, optimistic mind, one must posse good interpersonal skills,
to become a successful sociologist, I believe that I posse many of the required
interpersonal skills required because I have earned numerous awards in both school
and outside of school. Some of which are sportsmanship awards, conduct awards, and
social service awards. Please see below for a list of my awards.
A very important interpersonal skill not just to sociologists but to all professions is
leadership. With leadership one can lead others to gain what was impossible to gain as
an individual, but possible to a team. Since the summer of (year), I have began
training in the modern Chinese martial arts of Heng Yue Yen Long Kwon. Till this
day, I practice the art and it has earned me a black belt second Dan and a part time
teaching position at various locations across Hong Kong. I believe from my
experience as a martial arts teacher, I oppose enough leadership skills to make a good
leader.
I know university can be full of challenges, and if I were to gain admittance to your
prestigious university. I know I would work hard, and enthusiastically in order to
accomplish my dreams of a renown sociologist.
As the job of a social work is meaningful and contributive, I decided to choose this
professional and sacrificial job as my future career. I am always willing to comfort my
families and friends since I was approachable.
It is my firm belief that life is invaluable and man must live in the air of helping
others. This belief becomes stronger when I have tried to serve different walks of life
as a volunteer. Choosing the curriculum can make me able to meet new friends and
able to alleviate the pain and suffering of students. And the main goal of doing that is
to enhance every one of them has a happy and lighthearted childhood.
I have the belief that tertiary education is a stepping stone to further education and my
future career. Not only can I develop a sense of critical thinking and analytical skills,
but I can also sharpen my interpersonal skills as well as widen my horizons.
I would like to develop my career in the field of Arts. I learnt drawing from private
tutor since I was young. I am very pleased to find that the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University offers the course I am interested in. Graphic Design and Art has been a
keen interest of mine for a long time, and while looking at the prospectus entries I was
highly recommended to visit the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a successful
and positive place to study Art.
I had participated in the Hong Kong Award for young people, silver and bronze award
were obtained in secondary 3 and secondary 5 This programme provided me with
precious experience in learning the way to co-operate well with others. I had
participated in the (competition) organized by Yuen Long Town Hall and was awarded
the Merit award Also, I was awarded the best
improved student award in (year).
In school, I had chance to contact and communicate with students from my school and
from other schools. This was possible as I was a School Prefect in Form 4, and the
Chairlady of school House in Form 5 as well as the class monitress in Form 5 and 6.
With a sociable and easy-going character, it is possible for me to build up a congenial
relationship among my fellow schoolmates.
I am very much looking forward to hearing from you, and to attending the interview.
Besides being a nurse, being a teacher is also a meaningful job. This is because young
people are our future. They have to study in school before they serve society. So the
teacher should have the mission to teach the youths. What a challenging job it is?
Both careers need good social skills and language skills. I hope I can improve these
skills through tertiary education.
To achieve a meaningful life, I attended a first-aid course by St. John Ambulance last
summer and I am now an qualified first-aid assistance. I am a quite active and
optimistic student. I like to meet new friends. So I was a receptionist on school’s
Speech Day from Form 3 to Form 5.
I am an active and friendly person. In school, I have taken up a lot of duties such as
the Vice-Chairman of the Blue House. By organizing the extra-curricular activities, I
have acquired the invaluable skills of communicating and co-operating with others. I
have been a prefect leader and have acquired substantial training on leadership which
boosts my confidence and power of analysis. Also, I have been a tutor in school
helping lower form students on their homework. All these form a great asset to help
shape my personality and character.
The reasons that I choose these curricular activities are not only based on my
interest, but also my future aspiration. So I feel confident that I would be able to get
the most out of whatever course I am admitted to playing a full and lively part in
college life.
I enjoy traveling, experiencing cultures and meeting new people, and I have
traveled widely in South East Asia from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand back to
China. These trips have broadened my horizons and made me curious of the different
cultures.
I would like to enter the education or business sector in the future. In which I
could meet new people and face different challenges.
When I was in Form 6, I joined the debating team of my school and had been an
English tutor for my junior schoolmates in the summer holidays. These experiences
have promoted my ability to face new challenges so I can benefit from them, which
also helps in reassuring my determination to study the BA course.
Being an active, inquisitive student, I look forward to playing a full and lively
part in college life.
After taking thorough consideration, I would like to apply for the Bachelor of
Business Administration Degree as Hong Kong is the financial center in the world, I
am eager to learn how to efficiently deal with the complicated problems in the modern
business world and equip myself with richer modern business world.
Camping, reading, playing sport and computer are my favorite hobbies. I always
believe that healthy body can support me to face new challenges. Exploring the
Internet can help me to get a wealth of information from various web sites, broaden
my outlook in life; and reading can help me know more about the world.
However, I am too outspoken so sometimes I am talking too much and express too
much of my own feelings. Also, I’m a workaholic and perfectionist when I am doing
my work, I always give myself too much stress, and that’s why I always feel too
nervous on my work.
Apart from my hobbies, I have been a secretary in my school House and the
Commerce Club. I have also been a member of Football Team.
I like working with others, enjoy taking responsibility as well as dare to confront any
challenges. Last summer, I, together with my counterparts in other schools, have
organised a joint school singing contest in my community. Throughout the
preparation, I took the lead using the management and motivational skills I learned
from Business Studies. It was a pretty success. Apart from the contest, I joined a
leadership-training programme and worked as a volunteer in a young centre. In
addition, I also worked as an English tutor last summer teaching the junior
schoolmates. All these experiences really taught me a lot through face-to-face contact
with people from all walks of life.
In leisure, I like reading, playing sports and making new friends. I have a colourful
and meaningful life, however, I am looking forward to experiencing a more splendid
one in my college life.
Being a human, the understanding of our world and life is essential. It is also my
deep conviction that the elements that link people together are communication and
appreciation. But I do not think I have known them and this makes me really eager to
learn more. And tertiary education is the means! Not only will it gives me the chance
to widen and advance my knowledge, but it also prepares me for my future career.
It is my firm belief that life is invaluable and man must live in the air of helping
others. When this notion had been integrated with my intrinsic love of learning and
interest in medical science, I decide to choose the curriculum so that I will be able to
save life and alleviate the pain and suffering in our society.
Reading is my favorite! What I like most are scientific friction and journals I am
also interested in writing, on the grounds that it is a good way to express oneself.
Sport, especially badminton, make me healthy and keep me in good spirit at all times.
All in all, to have tertiary education, as a key to having more knowledge, getting
a better understanding of our culture and ourselves, and to a bright future also, is my
long-cherished wish!
When I was in primary 2, my parents sent me to the mainland for a year of studying.
Different styles of learning, communication and living between Hong Kong and
China have given me a profound influence on the understanding of the society. To
know more about the world I am living in, I choose a subject related to social science
in the university. The stronger the foundation of sociology I gain, the clearer vision I
will have for a life-long contribution to the society.
I hope to train myself to be a more thoughtful and well organized person to face
difficulties wisely.
I am an active, sociable and outgoing person. As I believe that adequate exercises and
comprehensive development of personal skills are keys to unlock the door of success,
I expose myself to a variety of learning sources. I was the House Captain and the
committee member of the English Club and PE Club in school. I was an anchor of
Campus TV and the member of debate team for 3 years. By organizing the extra-
curricular activities, I have acquired the invaluable skills to communicate and
cooperate with others. I also have a substantial training in leadership which boosts my
confidence and power of analysis. I have also been trained to deal with problems
efficiently, independently and objectively. These experiences sharpen my
interpersonal skills and develop my critical thinking.
Once admitted to the university, I will be fully committed to pursue knowledge and
the necessary skills. I sincerely hope that I will be given an opportunity to fulfill my
goal.
There is no doubt that having competitive edges are critical in such knowledge-based
economy like Hong Kong. The studies of Construction and Environment offer the
local work training and the courses are accredited by Chartered Institution of Civil
Engineering Surveyors, Hong Kong Institution of Engineering Surveyors, etc.
therefore it is my hope to be an approved engineer, who can work for the government,
statutory organizations or construction companies. Moreover, structures nowadays are
increasing everywhere in the world so it is a sensible decision to be an engineer.
