Land and Marine Pollution in Trinidad and Tobago

The problem

Social plastic entering the ocean and being consume by marine life depleting life in the ocean.

Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced each year, an average of 8 million enter the ocean racing
to join the 150 million already there.

The most common plastic waste found in the ocean is cigarette buds, food wrappers, bottles, caps,
straws and plastic bag which are emitted by urban activities, industrial companies and farming.

Two major foundations and research firms Mc Kinsey and Company concluded that by 2050 plastic will
outweigh fish entirely.

Trinidad and Tobago are amongst the top 100 filthiest countries, in which they rank no. 42

More than 50 million plastic bottles are dumped every month according to a Guardian article.

The ongoing pollution within Trinidad and Tobago have threaten lives, causing flooding and massive
destruction to homes reference to flooding in 2018 October.
