Huawei eSight Unified O&M System
2 Product Description
eSight is an integrated O&M management solution applicable to industry applications such as enterprise
campuses, data centers, and Safe City projects. eSight manages servers, storage devices, switches, routers,
WLAN, firewalls, eLTE terminals, eNodeBs, core networks, unified communications, telepresence, video
surveillance devices, and virtual resources in a unified manner. eSight also supports automatic deployment
of enterprise ICT systems, visualized fault diagnosis, and intelligent capacity analysis. With eSight,
enterprises can improve O&M efficiency, lower O&M costs, and ensure the stable operation of ICT
systems.
3 Product Features
Proactive fault prevention and visualized diagnosis decrease downtime by 80%.
− 24/7 monitoring and alarms: eSight monitors device status and traffic in real time. The system can
detect abnormalities and report alarms in a timely way to ensure the operation of services.
− Comprehensive visualized diagnosis: End-to-End (E2E) visualized diagnosis can handle service or
device faults quickly to improve efficiency and reduce losses caused by faults.
Intelligent capacity analysis increases ICT resource value by 30%.
− Resource capacity analysis: eSight can conduct statistical analyses of equipment room cabinet
capacity, storage capacity, network traffic, voice traffic volume, and number of WLAN users. The
system helps O&M personnel adjust resources to ensure effective utilization.
− Foundation for proper planning: eSight provides reports of historical data that covers a long period
of time and performs trend analyses to lay a foundation for planning IT optimization and
expansion. eSight thus helps avoid overlapping investments.
Automatic service deployment enhances efficiency more than tenfold.

− Automatic discovery of devices: eSight can find devices across an entire network using IP
addresses, reducing O&M labor.
− Fast service provisioning: eSight can deploy devices across the entire network using forms and
templates in batches to improve efficiency and shorten deployment times.
4 Product Functions
4.1 eSight Platform
The eSight Platform provides a variety of functions, including unified view, resource, topology, fault, and
performance management, as well as intelligent configuration for devices from different vendors. In
addition, eSight can be customized to handle third-party devices and alarm northbound interfaces. Relying
on eSight, users can set up a management system that deals with virtually any IT infrastructure to reduce
O&M costs and enhance efficiency.
Centralized alarm
eSight can display alarms of all devices on the network and clear redundant alarms by shielding, merging,
and suppressing them. eSight can notify O&M personnel of the alarm information through multiple
channels, such as voice, email, Short Message Service (SMS), and on a simulated device panel so that
O&M personnel can view fault information anytime and anywhere.
Unified view
eSight displays the topology of devices over the entire network in a centralized manner. O&M personnel
can view device and link status on the topology. Users can customize this topology by selecting key devices
to ensure the quality of core services.

Performance monitoring
eSight monitors indicators such as the utilization of CPUs over the entire network, memory utilization,
interface traffic, and link traffic in case of key indicator abnormalities. Based on this information, O&M
personnel can analyze the running status inside ICT systems and take measures to prevent limitations from
becoming full-blown problems.

Based on the Packet Conservation Algorithm for Internet (iPCA) and an enhanced area-based packet
conservation mechanism, eSight monitors network quality and locates faults precisely. eSight has become
the first multi-in, multi-out, multi-point tool for network quality measurement, overcoming the difficulties
in traditional Point-to-Point (P2P) monitoring.

WLAN management
eSight supports the converged management of wired and wireless networks and full-lifecycle Wireless
LAN (WLAN) management. Capabilities include visualized planning, fast service configuration, proactive
O&M, one-click end-to-end fault diagnosis, interference source location, and spectrum analysis. eSight
thus enables efficient troubleshooting of the wireless network.
Using eSight’s radio-location capability, users can get 360-degree awareness of service quality and
take proactive O&M measures.
eSight supports one-click E2E fault diagnosis based on searching, interference source location, and
spectrum analysis to enable efficient troubleshooting of the wireless network.

eSight displays the mapping relationship topology between components (VM disks and virtual NICs) and
physical devices (storage devices and servers). eSight also updates the status and performance data of
components within the topology in real time.
By specifying some key VMs, O&M personnel can focus on monitoring these VMs. Additionally, with
eSight, O&M personnel can quickly locate Top N resources, including hosts, virtualization servers, and
VMs whose CPU, memory, and disk utilization is highest.

Performance monitoring
eSight monitors multiple indicators of storage devices, including I/O delay, Input/Output Operations Per
Second (IOPS), bandwidth, disk utilization, and CPU utilization so that O&M personnel can keep informed
of the performance status.
Capacity analysis
eSight provides reports of long-term historical data and trend analyses to lay a foundation for planning
system optimization and expansion.

Network analysis
eSight clearly displays the connection relationships between storage devices and the network. By viewing
the status of hosts, switches, and storage devices, O&M personnel can determine a single point of failure’s
scope of influence and improve fault location efficiency.

Health assessment
eSight can calculate a health score for devices based on information such as availability (unreachable
device rate and port failure rate), alarms, and performance. Users can customize the weight of the alarm
and performance as well as the calculation method.

5 Networking Modes
Single-Server Deployment
In the single-node system deployment scheme, multiple web clients and one eSight server are connected
through a LAN or WAN.
Huawei eSight Unified O&M System
The eSight single-node system deployment scheme applies to small networks that do not require high
reliability. Users can configure the setup to isolate or not isolate the southbound and northbound services.

HA System Deployment
An eSight HA system can be a local two-node cluster (where two servers are deployed at the same site) or a
remote two-node cluster (where two servers are deployed at two different sites). This mode applies to
scenarios that require high reliability.
Local HA System
In this deployment mode, the eSight software is installed on both active and standby servers. Data between
the active and standby servers is synchronized through a dedicated replication line. If the active server fails,
services are automatically switched to the standby server to ensure normal running of the entire system.
Users can set a floating IP address between the active and standby servers. In this case, devices do not need
to reconnect to eSight after the active and standby switchover.
Remote HA System
In this deployment mode, the eSight software is installed on both active and standby servers. The two
servers can be deployed in geographically separated places. In case of a fault on the active server, services
are automatically switched to the standby server. Data between the active and standby servers is
synchronized through a dedicated replication line, which ensures normal running of the eSight system.
Because the two eSight servers use different IP addresses, users must set the IP addresses of the active and
standby servers on managed devices. In this case, information such as alarms on the devices can be
automatically sent to the standby server after the active/standby switchover to ensure normal device
monitoring and management.
