JFK SHEAR CONNECTOR

JFK Shear Connectors are typically used in composite steel construction to tie the concrete to steel members
and resist shear forces between the concrete slab and steel members. They are widely used in composite
construction, such as steel building, bridges, etc. Welding Through Metal Deck are available for this stud,
for this option, special ceramic ferrule type UFT are recomended

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

APPLICATION ON COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION

Advantages of Shear Connector
JFK Shear Connectors have high load bearing capacity and offer heavy resistance for failure by shearing,
in composite structure. Very high rate of production can be achieved, during construction. Ease of operation,
during construction. No specific skill is required for welding.
Flexibility in design of construction. JFK Shear Connectors can be welded through Desk Sheet, to produce
concrete slab. Size of columns are smaller hence for given built up area we can have larger carpet area
strong, durable, stable, and seismic resistant.

APPLICATION ON STEEL BRIDGE

Concrete

Shear Bolt Steel Beam

Modern bridge to be built requires strong structural strength bearing load from heavy traffic
passings. Shear connector serves for such bridge enable to make it more strong and economically.
The structure of compositebeam widely used for bulding bridge consists of steel beam and
reinforced ooncrete slab joined by JFK shear connector, so that the steel and concrete act as
a unit to bear the bending stress. If the same load is to be born, the composite beam allows smaller
sectional area, the composite bem bears heavier load than non-composite beam.

APPLICATION PILLING & COMPOSITE

JFK Shear connector are welded to inside of steel pipe piling. Which is to be used for brige foundation. To make
complete brige foundation, shear connector are welded to secureconcrete section of steel pipe piling and
footing column.

Tensile Test
Tension test is widely used to provide a basic design information on the strength of materials and is an acceptance
test for the specification of materials. The major parameters that describe the stress-strain curve obtained during
the tension test are the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) yield strength or yield point (Qy), elastic modulus (E)
percent elongation (L%) and the reduction in area (RA%). Toughness, Resilienece, Poisson’s ratio (V) can also be
found by the use of this testing technique. Tensile specimens are machine from the material to be tested in the
desired orientation and according to the standards.
AWS. D1.1-2015 Tension Tests. Ten of the welded specimens shall be a tension tested in a fixture similiar to
that show in Figure, except that studs without heads may be gripped on the unwelded end in the jaws of the
tension testing machine. A stud base shall be considered as qualified if all test specimens have a tensile strength
equal to or above the requirements.

QUALITY AND INSPECTION

Bending Test :
According to Appendix in JIS B 1198 and JIS Z 3145, the
stem and welding part of shear bolt should be free from
crack when bending reaches 30 degree in bending test.
Further requirement according AWS D 1.1, 4.27 and 7.2 is
that the cracking location should not appear at the welding
part during 30 degree reciprocal bending test. And no crack
and break should occur at both stem and welding part of
Bending Test On Site shear bolt during bending test by 90 degree strking.

2. WORK PIECE (FLOOR DECK or PLATE)
3. PIPE / HAMMER
4. α = 30°
