SERVICE BULLETIN

Bulletin Part Number: 760093-B1

Product: Acoustimass® 300 Wireless Bass Module.

Subject: Damaged or intermittent R519 activating DC offset protection circuit.

Disposition: Mandatory test required on product manufactured before 06/16/2017, DOM 7167. Product
built prior to this DOM can potentially have a damaged or intermittent R519 surface mount resistor.

Symptom: No audio/flashingredled.

Reason: A damaged R519 in the DC offset circuit will cause a PAOFFSET error when the resistance
value is higher than 48.7K.

Solution: To insure R519 is intact and withstands vibration, load the diagnostic test and issue the TAP
command “adcread” (read the adc registers), after applying a 190 hertz, 600 millivolt signal for a mini-
mum of 15 seconds. The 190 Hz signal will vibrate the PCB in the area of R519.

Diagnostic test instructions and software (Skipper_diags_1.0.0.8372.bin ) are found on the Bose
service-ops web site under the Acoustimass® 300 wireless bass module.

R519 can be a latent problem and intermittent on units produced prior to DOM 6358. Replace R519,
Bose P/N: 191465-4872, if damaged.

Required hardware
• Computer with USB port
• TTL-232R-3V3-AJ, 768-1098-ND, Digi Key.
(USB to UART cable with +3.3V TTL level UART signals), Figure 13, page 28, in the service manual.

Refer to (Diag Test instructions) located in the service manual or on the Bose serviceops website under
the Acoustimass® 300 wireless bass module software.
Diagnostic Test - TAP Set Up.
Diagnostic Test - Loading Software.
Diagnostic Test - Test results.

A good unit will consistently show the same voltage levels between line 1 and line 2 as shown in
this example:
[0] PAOFFSET1 channel[ 8] raw[1505] 1.21V
[1] PAOFFSET2 channel[ 9] raw[1503] 1.21V

A bad unit will cause the red led to blink once the unit is fully on and will show different voltage
levels in the two lines as shown in this example:
[0] PAOFFSET1 channel[ 8] raw[1507] 1.21V
[1] PAOFFSET2 channel[ 9] raw[1867] 1.50V error! PAOFSET diff = 0.29V expect < .10V

When R519 is intermittent, the diagnostic could look like this example below where the differ-
ence between the first two lines is getting bigger, however not enough to trigger a failure differ-
ence greater than 0.1V:
[0] PAOFFSET1 channel[ 8] raw[1507] 1.21V
[1] PAOFFSET2 channel[ 9] raw[1561] 1.25V

Material Impacted:
R519 RES,0603, .1W, 1%, 48.7K Ohm, Part number :191465-4872
