SPOKEN WORD POETRY MECHANICS AND CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

CONTEST MECHANICS/GUIDELINES:
1. SPOKEN POETRY is a performance art that is word based. It is a
writing that is meant to be spoken or delivered with emotions to an
audience. It is an oral art that focuses on the aesthetics of word
play, rhythm, improvisation, rhymes, intonation and voice
inflection.
2. Participants must be a bonafide student of Tagum City National
Comprehensive High School.
3. Each Grade level shall register one or more contestant.
4. A registration of P100.00 for each contestant shall be given to the
assigned committee 1 day before the contest.
5. The spoken poetry must be an original composition. It could be
written in ENGLISH, FILIPINO or BISAYA (Combination of the three is
still allowed).
6. The piece is open to any topics as long as it is not vulgar. No foul
words allowed failure to follow is subject for disqualification.
7. Each contestant shall be given 3-5 minutes to recite or deliver
his/her piece. A deduction of 1 point for every 1 minute extended
time.
8. The spoken poetry must be delivered from memory and any
movement is confined on stage.
9. Attire appropriate or school uniform should be worn during the
contest.
10. Sounds, Instrumental or Musical background are allowed to
complement the delivery.
11. Three (3) Printed copies of each contestant’s piece must be
submitted to the committee one hour before the contest proper.
