Reflection Paper on “Birth of Industrialization”

On August 17, 2019 I watched a documentary entitled ‘Birth of Industrialization’. It is a

documentry which showed the effects of industrialization in the United States as well as some
parts in Europe. It was a very informative guide with regards to the issues that came with the
sudden changes that occurred, because even though the inventions and production of
automobiles, machines, radios, etc., was becoming more massive, it also brought a lot of
consequences in different apsects. Because of the rapid change in industrialization in urban
areas, the people form rural areas were also rapidly being left behind in relation to
technological advancements. I’ve also noticed that during the 1900’s, racial discrimination was
very apparent to the point that the government had to build separate facilities for black and
white Americans which further divided them and turned it into a segregated society.

During the industrialization period, many working opportunities were opened due to the
introduction of mass production, however, it also came with a hefty price. The more the
industrialization increased, the more the worker’s power decreased. I felt a genuine sympathy
towards those workers because the wages were low but the working conditions were horrible
and dangerous which resulted to the death of many laborers. These kinds of occurences
opened the eyes of many people so they decided to protest and thankfully, they were heard
and was able to enjoy the 10% increase in their wages.

It is also a well-known fact that the United States is a land of immigrants. During 1907,
the immigration boomed and it was at its peak with over 1.3 million foreigners. The Americans
weren’t very accomodating at first because they were suspicious of them. There was also an
increase in plagues and epidemics in which the Americans blamed on the immigrants.
While watching the documentary, I realized that no matter how good or progressive our
technological advancements are, it will always have a negative impact not only on the health of
the people, but also on their mindset, as well as the environment. We have to learn to be
responsible for the consequences of our actions and stop looking for short-term solutions in
solving our long-term problems. We should also know our rights as a person and learn how to
fight for it every time we feel that are not getting what we deserve.

Reflection Paper on “The Human History Documentary”

The Human History Documentary, is a short documentary which shows how the major
human civilizations was formed ever since the the universe was created through the Big Bang
Theory. It started with the explanation of the spread of matter and energy from the explosion
which became the foundation of the formation of different heavenly bodies, as well as the start
of life from a single bacteria. The video stated that at first, the climate of the Earth was very
harsh which became incapable of housing any living organisms, but after hundreds and millions
of years, it became capable of being inhabited, thus, the first sign of life appeared.

It took many years for the Earth to evolve before becoming to its current state. The first
civilization was from Mesopotamia and the early humans had to go through many things in
order to survive. They discovered the importance of farming which became a major
breakthrough in the development of civilization, they also tried to domesticate some animals so
that they can use it in ploughing their land and not merely as food. Other civilizations also
started to appear which also had their own discoveries and inventions. As they continue to
grow in size, those civilizations became closer which provided them the chance to communicate
with each other. This also became revolutionary since the idea of trading was formed from their
interactions. Soon, some tools and crops which were only available in a certain area were able
to exist in many parts of the world.

It is indeed astonishing when you look back on how far we’ve come as a civilization. We
can see that the human mind is truly amazing because it’s as if there is no limit to the ideas that
it can produce. We have enjoyed many things because of the fruits from our ancestors and also
from the new inventions and discoveries that are still being developed today. We just need to
learn to cultivate the ideas that we have in our minds and hope that one day, we’ll be able to
make a breakthrough as well.
