Each semester, the Education Undergraduate Society hosts a variety of Professional

Development seminars for students in the Faculty of Education at the University of Lethbridge.
Thanks to the invaluable knowledge and time presenters are willing to share, these sessions
provide meaningful learning opportunities for aspiring educators. This letter acknowledges and
commends Daniella Matich for attending all Professional Development sessions that were
offered during the Fall 2020 semester:

“Numeracy in a Nutshell” ​was presented by Dr. Richelle Marynowski on September 17,

2020. This session highlighted the elements of theory, numeracy, and participants had an
opportunity to actively engage in numeracy activities.

“Teaching and Learning through Place Conscious Pedagogy” ​was presented by Dr.
Sharon Pelech on September 24, 2020. This session explored how to interweave
curriculum and learning with places where students live.

“Meet Edwin: Nelson Education’s Comprehensive Digital Learning Ecosystem -

PART I” ​was presented by Sherri Ross and Beth Cormier on October 6, 2020. This
session introduced participants to Nelson Education’s resource, ​Edwin, ​which has
numerous features to support instruction and learner engagement.

“Meet Edwin: Nelson Education’s Comprehensive Digital Learning Ecosystem -

PART II” ​was presented on October 8, 2020. This session was the continuation of PART
I with Sherri Ross and Beth Cormier which introduced participants to Nelson
Education’s resource, ​Edwin, ​which has numerous features to support instruction and
learner engagement.

“Getting Feedback: Strategies and Insights to Help You Recieve, Interpret, and Use
Feedback” ​was presented by Jenna Lowe on October 22, 2020. This session provided
information for how participants could best prepare to receive and give feedback with a
professional growth mindset.
 “Tips and Treats: Understanding the Supervision Process to Promote a Successful
Practicum” ​was presented by Dawn Burleigh and Dr. Greg Ogilvie on October 27, 2020.
This workshop highlighted understanding the supervision dynamic and participants
received tips on how to navigate practicum supervision to maximize their experience.

“Creating a Positive Classroom Environment During PSI: Tips from the Field” ​was
presented by Dr. Greg Ogilvie, Rhona Harkness, Arlene Purcell, and Keith Griffioen on
November 3, 2020. This session focused on practical tips for classroom management and
fostering a positive classroom environment.

“Managing Your 3Fs When Overwhelmed, Stressed, or Frustrated” ​was presented

by Dawn McBride on November 5, 2020. In this workshop, participants learned about
recognizing and managing stress reactions, using emotional regulation theory, and
strategies pertaining to prioritizing mental health.

“How to Thrive in PSI: COVID Edition” ​was a Q&A panel which featured executive
council members of the Education Undergraduate Society on November 10, 2020.
Participants had the opportunity to ask student teachers questions regarding what to
expect in practicum experiences in addition to tips, advice, understanding how to manage
adverse circumstances, and seeking best practices of how to go about situations they
encounter in their practicas.

“Professional Inquiry Project Symposium - PSIII Culmination” ​was presented by

students finishing up their final professional semester on December 4, 2020. This
symposium was an opportunity for participants to learn about research presented by
intern teachers. There were 7 different sessions with topics including:
● managing teaching through a global pandemic;
● assessment and evaluation;
● fostering relationships, school community, and classroom culture;
● the integration of FNMI content;
● technological integration;
● Physical Education;
● Math;
● CTS
