‫ أ ََّما َب ْع ُد‬،ُ‫َن حُمَ َّم ًدا َعْب ُدهُ َو َر ُس ْولُه‬ َ ْ‫َأَ ْش َه ُد أَ ْن الَ إِلَهَ إِالَّ اهللُ َو ْح َدهُ الَ َش ِري‬، ُ‫ي لَه‬
َّ ‫ َوأَ ْش َه ُد أ‬،ُ‫ك لَه‬ َ ‫فَالَ َهاد‬
First and foremost, all praise is to Allah SWT, who has given us mercy and blessing, so we can attend and
gather in this place tonight. Secondly, sholawat and salam be upon on our Prophet Muhammad SAW, who has
brought us from the darkness to the brightness.

Honorable the director of Islamic Boarding School and Tahfizh Al-Qur’an of Rihabul ‘Ilmi, our headmaster, Al
Ustadz Bilal Fatahillah, Lc. Honorable all teachers and my beloved friends.
In this happy occasion, I would like to speak about “THE PILLAR OF ISLAM”.

Brothers and sisters!

There are five pillars of Islam, the first is shahada, the second is prayer, the third is Zakah, the fourth is
fasting and the last is hajj for those who are capable. The Shahada is ceed of Islam and it is interpreted as a self
statement of all the body and soul of professing faith that is no other God but Allah and prophet Muhammad
is messenger of Allah.

As we know that prayer is the pillar of Islam, so prayer is obligatory. The meaning of prayer is an Act of
worship that begins with takbiratul ihram and ended by salam. We know that the first worship will be
calculated in the hereafter is prayer.

Allah SWT said in Holy Qur’an Surah Al Baqarah verse 43:

‫و أقيموا الصالة وءاتوا الزكاة واركعوا مع الراكعني‬
“And establish prayer, And give the zakah and bow with those who bow”

The Zakat means to purify treasure, because in every human treasure there are some other people’s.
Therefore, the Zakat is obligatory for every Muslim who has fulfilled certain conditions and it is a form of
worship.

The fourth is fasting. The purpose of fasting is to develop the quality of taqwa, inwardly and outwardly, by
abstaining from drinking and eating from dawn to dusk, and also from sinful deeds that can be committed
through the eyes, ears, lips and heart. The holy month Ramadhan has a special place in Islam. Therefore, our
Prophet Muhammad SAW gives great concern to this holy month.

Allah SWT said in Holy Qur’an Surah Al Baqarah verse 183:

‫يا ايها الذين امنوا كتب عليكم الصيام كما كتب على الذين من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون‬
“those who believe in the compulsory upon you fast as enjoined upon those before you that you to devout”

The last one is Hajj, it is only obligatory for those who are physically and financially capable of taking the
journey. Why? Because Hajj requires you to travel to Mecca which will definitely requires some money and
good condition of the body.

From this speech we can take note that by following the pillar of Islam as we Muslim.
