cycles of different living organisms.

Technology Standard Addressed: Creative Communicator – Students use the appropriate platform,
Padlet in this case, to meet the objectives and communicate their learning.

Guiding Question(s): What are the steps and processes of a frog’s life cycle?

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or
Choice” during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☒ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is
student-driven and student-led. Students should have “Voice and Choice” in the activities,
selecting the topic of study and determining the technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the
standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.

☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student
work and promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s
morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Your student’s projects must be shared locally or globally to meet this level.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The activity I have planned supports all students because
Padlet offers many different methods of response. Students who are artistic, like to do research, like
to post videos of themselves talking, and many more ideas – they are all supported by having the
choice of how to express their ideas. The experience will support engagement because students will
share their Padlet and other students can comment on their ideas. Although each student’s
information will be similar, there are various ways of Action and Expression shown throughout the
lesson.

Lesson idea implementation: The guiding question for this lesson is “What are the processes and

steps a frog goes through during it’s life cycle?” I will first explain to students what a life cycle is and
ask guiding questions to open classroom discussion. I will provide students with a BrainPOP video on
life cycles of various animals and we will play the provided learning game from BrainPOP. Next, I will
have printed out cards with each step of the life cycle of a frog and allow students to work in groups
to try to put the cards in the correct order. Students will work together to discuss their thoughts. I
will show the Padlet that I created that has each step of a frog’s cycle with detailed descriptions and
pictures. The Padlet I created included questions that students should answer in the Padlet that they
create. To assess student learning, they will work with the same assigned group to create a Padlet of
their own. I will explain to students how the tool works and model how to use the tool. They will
have the choice of creating a timeline, drawing a picture and posting it to the Padlet, or creating a
video to post – this extends higher learning levels as they are given the choice of how they would
like to express their learning. The lesson will be concluded by presenting each group’s Padlet to the
class.
Reflective Practice: I think this lesson impacts student learning by offering a choice on how students
will respond to the Padlet information. For next steps or extended learning, students could create
their own Padlet without using the example that I have provided. We could also wait an offer
creating a Padlet on their own in a different lesson in the future since this is the student’s first time
using the tool. Another technology tool that could enhance this project is Microsoft PowerPoint
which could be a platform that students could use to express their learning.
