4 Differential Global Navigation Satellite Systems (DGNSS)
The DGPS systems provided on the vessel utilizes a combined GPS/GLONASS constellation. This comprises a dual-frequency system (L1 and L2) to remove ionospheric delay and GLONASS to improve satellite coverage. Utilization of GPS / GLONASS allows access to approx. 43 satellites, against 31 of
GPS only. However, this depends on the operational area of the vessel and satellite health in the vicinity of operation. In the case of West Africa, for example, during daylight hours these systems could lose communication with between 7 and 9 GPS and between 2 and 4 GLONASS satellites. DGPS 3 is a Hybrid GNSS based position, attitude and heading system (DPS 5D). The system has combined GPS L1/L2, GLONASS L1/L2 and GNSS receiver, and dual GNSS antennas located at different positions on the vessel these reduce the risk of interference due to blocking or shading of signals caused by on-board obstructions and improve the availability to satellites.
