You live in a world full of sounds. Sounds make you aware of the things around
you. Some sounds are nice to listen to while others are not. Some make you
nod your head, tap your feet, and even snap your fingers.

Look at the picture above. What do you see in a busy street? What kinds of
sounds can you hear there?
You hear different sounds on the street. You hear people walking, talking, and
cars passing by. Sounds can make you feel happy or sad. They can also make
you feel angry and scared.

WHAT IS SOUND?
Sound is anything you hear. You use your ears to hear different
sounds in your homes, in school, and on the playground.

Forces of nature make sounds. The rain pitter-patters on the roof. The
wind howls. Use your voice to imitate the sound of the wind. Tap the table with
your fingers to make the sound of the rain falling on the roof.

Musical instruments and other objects make sounds, too.

Some sounds are nice to listen to. They are called pleasant sounds. They
make you feel happy.

Some sounds are not nice to listen to. They are called unpleasant sounds or
noise. They hurt your ears and make you feel scared, unhappy, or uneasy.

REMEMBER

 Sounds is anything we hear. We hear and listen to sounds using our ears.
 Pleasant sounds are nice to listen to. They make us feel happy.
 Unpleasant sounds are not nice to listen to. They are called noise.

Steps to follow:
1. Look at the face in the mirror.
2. Draw your face on a piece of paper.
3. What is the shape of your face? Is it round, square, or oval.
4. Use straight and curved lines to draw the shape of your face.
5. Use thick lines to draw the outline of the face, eyes, nose, ears, and
mouth.
6. Use light, thin lines to draw the eyelashes and eyebrows.
7. Look at your hair in the mirror. Is it long or short? Is it straight or curly?
8. Make sure to use the right kind of lines to draw your hair.
9. Color your portrait. Then write something about it.

REMEMBER
 A portrait is a picture of a person, especially of the face. It
can be a drawing, painting, photograph, or engraving.
 When a person makes a portrait of himself or herself, it is
called a self-portrait.
 Lines can be used to draw a portrait. There are different
kinds of lines. They can be straight or curved. They can be
thick or thin.
 The face has a shape. The nose, lips, eyes, and ears are
arranged or positioned in the face in a balanced manner.
