Bulletin.

B. Reason

(1) Objective:

The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to introduce a high pressure turbine

rotor pressure tube adapter de-swirler (de-swirler) to the LM2500+/+G4
high pressure turbine (HPT) rotor assembly. This de-swirler replaces the
high-pressure turbine rotor pressure tube adapter.

(2) Condition/Events:

Two HPT forward shaft distress events occurred in the LM2500 base Xtend
fleet.

(3) Cause:

The most probable root cause of the base Xtend HPT forward shaft events
was determined to be acoustic instability in the HPT shaft inner cavity.

(4) Improvement:

Service Bulletin LM2500-IND-0273 and LM2500-IND-0277 introduced the

de-swirler to the LM2500 base Xtend engine. This Service Bulletin introduces
the de-swirler to the LM2500+/+G4 engines in order to eliminate any potential
acoustic instabilities in these engines.

C. Description

This Service Bulletin provides instructions to install a new HPTR de-swirler.

D. Compliance

Category: Routine (R) Level: Field/Depot (F/D) Timing Code: 6

GE recommends this Service Bulletin be accomplished at repair of the HPTR or

next depot visit.

E. Manpower
Once the engine is removed from the enclosure, approximately 144 man-hours are
required to accomplish this Service Bulletin in the field as a rotable exchange. The
de-swirler must be installed in the HPTR at the depot.

F. Tooling
Ensure all tooling required by technical manual procedures referenced in
ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS is on hand prior to performing this Service
Bulletin.

II. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A. Remove high pressure turbine rotor pressure tube adapter, PN 9661M15P04, per
GEK 105056, Chapter 13-1. Discard adapter.

NOTE
In the following step, GEK 105056, Chapter 13-3, describes installation of the high
pressure turbine rotor pressure tube adapter but those instructions can be used for
installation of the de-swirler by using the new torque specified below.
B. Install new de-swirler, PN L63841P05, per GEK 105056, Chapter 13-3, except
tighten de-swirler to 1950-2050 lb ft (2644-2779 N·m) of torque.
