The Stranger Within

Being aware of one’s self is proof of your existence in this world. Widespread of the
people tend to dismiss this thought and underestimate the power of accepting your self’s
capabilities. Aristotle says, “Self-realization is attained by fulfilling man’s threefold nature:
vegetative, sentient and rational” which roughly means that understanding and looking further
into your self, proves that you are alive and that you are in a conscious state of the reality that
you are living in. “We construct the self”, as Immanuel Kant quoted, so let us not be strangers
and delve deeper into uncovering more about our selves.

Technically speaking, we may define the self as the general being of a person, awareness
of the individual, and his or her qualities. The self is not only limited to these aforementioned
descriptions, as various renowned philosophers provided us with different perspectives on this
particular topic, which by then I will generalize.

One can be curious about the soul and the self, itching to know its relevance in our lives
and how it would mean to us, for this a significant task for a person, as Socrates implies.
Achieving great things that you persevere for is possible if you are familiar with your self as this
is a simple requirement. It is one of the primal things you can do.

“The soul is the essence of the self” as Aristotle inferred, it is crucial that you create
efforts to grasp the meaning of your inner essence in order to obtain your full potential and live
an abundantly happy life. This isn’t just a bundle of inspirational phrases arranged together to
prove a cheesy remark, but a necessity and a fact that if we neglected, it is just like we are
allowing ourselves to be robbed of genuine success and contentment.

People are born without selfhood, so instead they must obtain it through interactions and
experiences over time. The "self” is a mystery waiting to be uncovered not only through internal
knowledge but the involvement of ourselves to our external environment, similar to Immanuel
Kant’s standpoint.

Comparative to most of the philosophical perspectives that I have studied, how you
express yourself determines your actions. Take for example – you have principles that highly
pays attention on your goals no matter what, but then complications arrive and redirecting a way
out is difficult, you still choose to keep striving. When you are mentally, emotionally, and
physically drained from school and you do not feel like going through another day from it, but
you know yourself as a type of person that does not give up no matter what, then you will
reclaim your fighting spirit and go through it all. You, yourself are able to uphold integrity
higher than anything else, then you will realize how such a small thing such as knowing yourself
enables you to get greater outcomes in your life. If you are the kind that easily submits to
failures, then you are just throwing away the chance to see your objectives through, especially
when things go against you. But if you identify yourself as someone who finds a way to get the
outcome they desire no matter what then you will find a way through even when things get hard.
To end my stance, the self is not only a single entity of consciousness within our selves,
but it extends to our beliefs, experiences, feelings, and our way of thinking. It suggests our
potential uniqueness among others through the aspects of the mind, body and soul. If these
contexts are thoroughly taken into deeper account, these then conclude the possibility of our
selves to transition from a “nobody” to a “somebody”.
