Planetarium Jakarta

General Description
Planetarium Jakarta is an educational touring
facility that presents simulations about
astronomy and celestial objects. It is located at
Ismail Marzuki Park, Jakarta. It was built
initiatively by President Sukarno. This place
began to be built since 1964 and was
inaugurated and opened to public on 1969. The
construction began in 1964 as a part of the
Ismail Marzuki Park art complex.

Characteristic
The Planetarium is located in Ismail Marzuki Park,
Cikini 8 Street, In front of the Cikini Village Office,
and next to the Grand Theater. It has the height
about 10 meters, its color of the building is blue,
the model of the building is like an observatory,
and it has two floors.
Large Amount
The first floor is used as an exhibition hall that shows a variety of ornaments including a
diorama and a small theater that shows films of astronomy to give more knowledge of space
objects. The second floor has a space simulation attraction known as the Star Theater. The
average amount of visitors each month is around
8.000 people per month.
Just like museums, this place opens from
Tuesday to Sunday. Every Tuesday to Friday the
show only performs once which starts at 4:30pm, but
on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, it opens at
10:00am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, and 2:30pm. If the
national holiday lands on Friday, then the opening
time of this Star Theater is at 10:00am, 1:30pm,
3:00pm, and 4:30pm. For a certain groups of
participants there is surely a special time for the
show which is from Tuesday to Thursday at 9:30am, 11:00am, and 1:30pm, but on Friday is at
9:30am and 1:30pm.
In the Planetarium, there is an occasion that visitors always wait for which is the Star
Theater. Star Theater is a show that shows and explains lots of kinds of celestial objects and
astronomy while giving the visitors the feeling of being in space like inside a spaceship. The
floor in this theater can rotate making the
audience feel like they’re flying through
space.
Function
This Planetarium is built so that people who visit this place can get to know more information
about space or celestial objects, astronomy and how massive this universe is along with the
history of how it was made while also being able to have fun when learning with the help of the
Star Theater.

Critics
Critics for the visitors is when visiting the Planetarium, I advise that the visitors should visit at
least 30 minutes before the Star Theater show begins so that they can enjoy and increase their
knowledge in the exhibition hall.

along with astronomy and the history of
space.
