Title: Product Modification Authorization

Model(s) All Cummins Generator Sets

Background/Description:
Cummins generator sets and related products are often Certified, Listed, or otherwise
assured compliant to specific codes and standards. Modifications made after factory
production and shipment may directly or indirectly violate these codes and standards. As
such, post-production modifications must be approved by the appropriate factory support
engineer. This document outlines the process for requesting factory approval for
such modifications.

Please note: unauthorized modification of a Cummins generator set or related product may
void factory warranty (see Warranty Manual A040W374) and could lead to product and
property damage, personal liability, as well as significant health and safety risks.

Corrective Actions:
Modification Request Process
The following steps should be followed in order to receive support and factory authorization
regarding a post-production modification to any generator set or related product.

1. Search Quickserve Online for literature related to proposed modification,

specified to the model in question
2. Contact your responsible Distribution Field Service Engineer (DFSE) and request
support.
3. With DFSE support, create Technical Service Request (TSR) regarding
modification request.
4. Factory representative will provide feedback via TSR regarding modification
authorization and/or troubleshooting support.

Examples of Possible Modifications Requiring Authorization

Change of rated engine speed (i.e. 50Hz/60Hz change)

Changes that would make the rating plate incorrect

Changes to any protection device - e.g. temperature, pressure, speed or position
switches or sensors

Alteration to alternator leads, in-to or out-of terminal/entrance box

Alterations to circuit breaker protection settings or ratings

Alteration to generator control box

Alteration to factory-designed cooling systems components

Alteration to any fuel system components

Alteration to filter components

Alteration to lubricating oil system

Alteration to factory-designed enclosure

Alteration to exhaust system by installing non-Cummins after treatment system

Accessory Kits purchased from the Factory

Rental generator set designed by factory to operate in dual speed/frequency
