Genetic engineering

One issue that caused lots of controversy over the years is

genetic engineering. Nowadays biological technologies are
developing rapidly, which cause the increase of amount of
experiments and scientific works. And still there are disputes
about pros and cons of genetic engineering and its effect on
organism.

As far as I am concerned genetic engineering is a big step in

human development and it allows us to add or remove features
of organisms, locally change DNA and even clone. One argument
in support is the opportunity to increase agricultural production:
the scientists may create plants with resistance to pests, which
leads to less use of insecticides. The creation of genetically
modified products could help to solve the starvation problem.
The other is that genetic engineering may help infertile people to
have kids. It is necessary to mention that such biological
technology may be used to cure diseases, for instance genetic
diseases or cancer. By removing the definite gene from one’s
DNA, scientists with doctors could correct deficiencies and
prevent the development of various diseases.

On the other hand, some people believe that genetic engineering

must not be used to interfere in DNA of human, animal or plant.
Especially religious people could not accept such an initiative to
change the way we are. The most reasonable negative aspect of
genetic engineering is that we do not know how our current
actions may affect the future generations. It probably may cause
new diseases or states. It should be mentioned that the
development of biological technologies may lead to control by
big pharmaceutical companies, which does not bring anything
good to an ordinary person.
I agree with this position and admit that genetic engineering has
its cons as well as pros. But I don’t think that it should stop the
process of studying and practicing it, ‘cause genetic engineering
brings the humanity a lot of benefits.

To conclusion, I would like to stress that despite all the cons of

genetic engineering, we should develop this sphere as it may
solve lots of our problems and offer the ways of making life
better and easier.
