POSITION PAPER February 19, 2021

COMMITTEE: Commission on Human Rights

TOPIC: “Philippine Drug War under Duterte Administration”

COUNTRY: Philippine

President Rodrigo Duterte won the 2016 Philippine presidential election promising to kill tens of
thousands of criminals and urging people to kill drug addicts. This is his number one agenda why
he run as a president in our country because he believes that this is the main reason why the
Philippines suffering poverty and undying crim rates that continuously increasing.

Thousands of people in the Philippines have been killed since President Rodrigo Duterte
launched his “war on drugs” on June 30, 2016 campaign. Duterte has claimed that he is "not a
killer," and that he "[has] yet to kill one human being. “When I say, 'I will kill you,' that's a
statement coming from the mouth.” He also said there was "nothing wrong" with him threatening
to kill anybody who "destroys the Philippines," and claimed that there is no law that prohibits
him from "threatening criminals." Some other said that this is against to Human Rights, that
killing is not the solution to this problem.

The human rights crisis in the Philippines unleashed since President Rodrigo Duterte took office
in June 2016 deepened in the present year as Duterte continued his murderous “war on drugs” in
the face of mounting international criticism. But pres. Duterte once said, “Your concern is
human rights, Mine is human lives.” If he did not make an action to suppress this illegal Drugs
addiction there is many lives suffer. Especially the lives of our youths who is the hope of our
country. So, Pres. Duterte will determined to stop the illegal drug addiction in our country for the
benefits of every Filipinos whatever it takes.

Personally, if I would ask if am in favor to this campaign my answer would be a Yes. I’m not
against in this campaign of pres. Duterte perhaps I find it effective based on the News I’ve
watch. Honestly, the Duterte administration is effective compared to the many administration
before him and I’m proud to say that I chose the right President to vote.
The reasons way I convince myself to vote him are, I seen him as a leader because he has the
traits apt for a “Great Man.” He has self-confidence drive. He wanted to end drug-related crimes
immediately, something that past Philippine presidents did not focus on. Honesty and integrity.
He says what he really thinks and desire to lead (he did run for the office). The city he was a
mayor of prior to running for president has an exceptionally low crime rate.

But on the other hand, I’m not saying that he is a perfect leader or person. However, these traits
do not come without a price. It appears that there are some dark traits surfacing from him. For
one, he is narcissism as he overestimated his ability to eradicate crime in the Philippines. He is
also impulsive as he talks and acts without thinking much about the consequences. Lastly, he
may also be seen as argumentative because he felt that other countries were ganging up on him.
But whatever negative traits on him that other seen to him I will continue to support him and his
leadership and advocacy, to make the Philippines a better country. And if I were given a chance
to vote him as a president again, I will definitely love to.
